I'm in Spain for a week in august and kids have asked if we can go to morocco for a trip - I've looked at directferries.co.uk and the prices don't look too bad but I 've got a couple of questions that maybe would be better asked here:
  • is it worth going to ceuta/tangier for just a day trip?
  • is it worth going for more than a day?
  • planned on going as a foot passenger - worth taking car (would need to check hire car insurance first)?
  • would it be better to wait until we're back in UK then fly from here for a few days break?

Ceuta's not Morocco although it's quite an interesting place not sure I'd bother just for a day but if you've not been before, Tangiers could be an eye opener:D

with two teenage girls I'm not sure of the merits of visiting anywhere 'dodgy'

What Tim said, Ceuta is an interesting place and it is in Africa after all, although it's Spanish so you won't get a Morocco stamp in your passport. It's about 10 times bigger than Gibraltar so a right old trek if you want to explore on foot. But I think that the real Morocco only starts about 100 miles south of Ceuta.

maroc doesnt really start until youre about 100 miles inland, i wouldnt bother for a day.

I went to Ceuta last year for the night whilst on a sailing trip out of Gibraltar.

Guess we were lucky but there was a fantastic carnival on that night.

Went in loads of bars, including an excellent one in the massive fort complex that is well worth looking around, no trouble just a nice mix of Spanish/African.

Did end up with a bad hangover and the sea was pretty rough on way back though :blast

Thanks for the advice :thumb

Still mulling over - we're not in spain until 16th.
May even leave it until half term and fly over there instead :nenau

Well that saves me asking my question. I was about to ask whether it would be worth visiting for two or three days on our GSA at the end of October but it sounds like it's probably not and we'd do better to spend the time in Portugal and Spain.
