Hi, my mate and I are heading to Morocco next week and the logbook for his recently purchased xt660z has not yet arrived :eek Well I say recently, he has had it for about 3 weeks and the previous owner sent the logbook off the night he bought it, still, you cant expect the DVLA to turn it round in 3 weeks.

Anyone else got in without the V5?? Or does he need to make a trip to Swansea :D
:thumb2

I didn't have a V5 for my Navara Outlaw so I scanned another V5, changed the details by copying and pasting numbers and letters from elsewhere in the document, then printed it.

The customs guy mumbled about photocopies but I had the sales invoice with me and blamed it on inefficient governments.

I wasn't asked for proof of insurance when I went in.

For all information have a look at the database that Tim Cullis runs on here, vast amount of excellent info :thumb

Hope the link works :)

The link didn't work  Check it out anyway :)

Second edit ... Tim beat me to it ... cheers Tim :thumb

:thumb Best get busy with Photoshop then :D

Thanks for the replies, and yeah, I have checked out Tims Morocco DB and shed loads of other threads on here. It's saved me asking a myriad of questions. My mate spoke to the DVLA and they posted it sometime this week so he might get it before Tuesday.....

You might be able to bluff your way into Morocco, but first you have to get through Spain, and it only takes the slightest reason to be stopped (traffic violation, ETA checkpoint, they just feel like it, etc), and they will be requesting ALL YOUR PAPERS and believe me you don't mess about with the Policia Guardia Civil de Traffico, they do not accept photocopies and will impound your vehicle if they suspect anything dodgy, and you will pay the daily impound costs, (then if the copy doesn't match the original you eventually produce or there's the slightest discrepancy, then you'll face heavy fines or worse, they still might not release it and you're F**ked!!)

Is it worth it?

This is only intended as a warning from someone in the know, (I've have been riding/driving in Spain regularly for 23 years), who has been stopped by them a many times over the years mainly for spot checks but always having to produce my paperwork, including proof of ownership, i.e logbook.

good point. Thanks

docs

gibGSA.......hang on a mo!......just getting my stuff ready, docu wise for a maroc visit in 2 weeks, even a IDP. hadn't given much thought outside maroc.are you saying you need original docs,v5,insurance, mot in spain?..(i have photocopies of these) and didn't intend taking the real stuff except passport........tyke

I got stopped in spain last year on my GSA12. they took my doks and studied them, had originals in a plasi bag stuck to inside of pannier lid which is a good job cos he just pushed the photocopies back at me shaking his head.
anyway after some discussion i parted with 300 euros yes 300 fekin euros in fines for not stopping at a stop sign. the fact that i had stopped at the sign was of no concequence as i had been stupid enough to let my front wheel cross the line and i only put one foot down.
Yes you guessed it wheel must be behind the line weather you can see clearly or not and both feet must touch the ground or you havent stopped!!!

how the fek can you argue with two gringo's with guns in the middle of fekin no where. Basicly I was robbed by the Guardia civil but hey.

moral of story take everything with you and keep it safe. when your on there turf ony one of you can lose and its not going to be them.....

But do enjoy the trip!!!
Ps Ive been back for 6 weeks since and not ben pulled.

You see I sh*t you not, living in Gib as I do, I could tell you some real horror stories I have heard over the years involving the Guardia, and worse is there's nothing you can do about it except pay up. Just count yourselves lucky you've got the UK police to contend with, sounds funny but its true.
Believe me Morocco is the easy bit, as they, (the Police), tend to leave the tourists alone, cos they're trying to encourage tourism.

Too true

We moan about the police here but realy know we are not going to get raped by them.
In spain they are looking for your plates and will tax you accordingly.
I had a british motor and got stopped all the time, put it on spanish local plates and not a tug in 4 years.
Its tourism tax, just as simpls as that.
Thats Just how it is..

spanish police?

majorbumsore......'not a tug in 4 years' ??????????
jeeeeze, now i know why they say bikers have big balls!...arf!

The bike I'll be riding thru Spain and down to Moroc will be registered in my mate's name and I'll be down on the insurance papers as the second rider and the Green Slip will be in either both our names or mine.

The log book will obvioulsy be in my mate's name.

Is this going to cause me problems with the Guardia or Moroccoan customs?

Stopping with both feet down?

To pass the motorcycle test here you have to stop with right foot on rear brake and left foot only down.
That's how everyone here rides.

I can see I'm going to get along famously with Spainish coppers. It's a bit late in my riding life to start thinking about putting both feet down when I stop.
