She tells me she's changed nothing :mmmm

It’s been working perfectly since March this year.

The only things that HAS changed is that we changed from PAYG 1G broadband to 8G 2 weeks ago – been working perfectly before and after. Can’t see how that would affect anything – then again, I know nuffin’ about the intricacies of these things.

She turned the pc on, the screen on, the speakers on and the modem/router on.

It's a Netgear DG834PN on PlusNet.

I've tried (and am as I type) using the modem that came with the original PlusNet broadband & it works fine.

We upgraded as we wanted a more secure connection & wireless when we use a laptop down there :augie

Tried a hard reset - I can see the router, I can log on to the router, but it don't see t'interweb........

Tried using the Netgear site for any hints, tips & help, but at a bit of a loss now. Tried "spoofing" the MAC address, but it says go log onto the router, go to Basic Settings>Router MAC Address, but whilst I can see the MAC Address I can't work out how to change it.

Does LCP Down and CHAP authentication failed mean anything to anyone? In luddite terms please………:eek

CHAP is username/password stuff, if the old modem is working, then put the username and password for that into the Netgear.

The hard reset probably cleared the username and password out.

A hard reset on a Netgear clears all user defined setting including username/password and any security that existed before.

Log into the router:

192.168.0.1 in the web browser window then username: admin password: password

Then put the settings in again (use the wizard if you like or do it manually).

As Shugie has already said all that's happening is the router is trying to connect without the login credentials, seems fine to me otherwise.

Mine goes down quite often, when it does I run Ad-Aware on the pc to clear the rubbish I have picked up and all is well again, I have had to do as Judge said in his post once, and since then the free ad-aware keeps it all running smoothly.

So today even the cheapy BT Voyager 210 ADSL Router modem thing wouldn't work

Unplugged all the 'phones and filters and plugged them back in.

Old modem fine, Netgear still shagged.

Double check everything, including passwords with mum.............despite double checking them and asking her was she sure..................

I should have known :blast

"Oh, no dear, that was the wrong password I gave you, it's............."

All working fine now, thanks guys :beerjug:

Would someone be so kind as to pass the mess webley, please? :mcgun
