Im just wondering what other peoples experiences are of this -

I have already -

Heated grips
Autocom

Im soon to have in addition to the above -

Zumo 550
Heated waistcoat
Wassell HID's

All powered from what looks like the origanal battery.

I never use the bike for short trips so presumably the bike is always getting a good charge but im wondering just how long the standard one can hold out.

I dont use (and never have used) an optimate.

Thanks, Dave:)

Yes it will cope no problem.

I run all that on the original battery and have never used an optimate:thumb

So long as it's not always short trips to the shops and switch all the Aux's off before starting :thumb2

what year of GS do you have? It will have been on other threads, but the 08 model GS has the heavy duty alternator from the GSA.
In my (limited) experience with BMW bikes, they tend to start, unless the antenna ring fails.....

Off topic I know, but are you getting much riding done just now? To me its too bloody cold / frosty to get the bike out in Aiberdeenshire at the moment. :(

The OEM battery / alternator should cope fine (do 1200's have a load shedding relay? - if not, be nice to your battery and don't try to start with accessories switched on).

However there's nothing like a prolonged period of really cold weather for testing batteries - they are a consumable and don't last forever.
