Is new really better than s/h?

Money to burn??

I could afford new when I bought my GSA, so I bought new. I don't see it as burning money, I see it as enjoying life :thumb2
As Stretch says, our 'toys' are what we work hard for. What's the point of working hard if you can't reap the rewards? I may or may not be able to afford a new bike next time I change, but if I can I will again buy new. I like the feeling that no-one has had the bike before me and that I know all the history of how it's been ridden etc.

Personally I've never bought a new bike in my life. As has been said it's only new till you drive it out of the showroom.

Most bikers are passionate about their machines and it doesn't take long to find one for sale that's been cherished and loved as much and sometimes more than I care for my own bikes. Private sales are the best deal, visit the sellers home and meet the guy, chat to him about the bike and you can soon work out how the bike's been looked after. As long as it's still in warranty I don't see much risk.

For the near the price of a new GS I've got sitting in my garage a full on sports bike, a dirt/trail bike and the GS itself. All were under warranty when bought, had minimal miles and had been pampered beyond belief

I'm just pleased there's loads of the "must be new" types out there otherwise I'd have to pay full price myself:D:D

Nope, shouldn't be much risk if you know what you're doing. I have no problem buying 2nd hand, but if I have the money to buy new, and don't NEED the money for anything else then there's nothing better that treating yourself to a nice new gleeming bike imo

Yep that's a major plus for buying 2nd hand, but unfortunately I don't have the room for more than one bike :(

As above, there's a lot of people out there like me, and it's not a case of "MUST buy new", but like to buy new if we can :thumb2

Love it, now I can tell Mrs Stretch I'm buying a new bike out of charity in order to save money for the masses :D Well then, I'm not such a bad chap after all :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:thumb

Best regards Stretch :)

Wouldn't life be boring if we all thought the same:aidan

Alternatively, as General George Pattern once said,

"There are many people people that disagree with me, they are all wrong"

:D:D:D:D

I bought my '08 GSA from this site when it was 11 months old and had just over 2K on the clock. An equivalent spec'd new bike was quoted to me for 3.5K more than the private sale. With the bulk of the warranty left and a bike that was clearly well looked after by the owner I got a great deal. After 12 months I had made the bike mine as if it never had a previous owner. So, for me this was the right way into GS ownership.

Having said that, if I could afford to buy new then I would because I completely understand why you would want to if you have the money.

I bought a new, but pre-registered, 2009 GS from Allan Jefferies in November 2009 after the 2010 twin cam was announced and saved over £2k at £9995 on the road. So I effectively got a new unmolested bike at s/h prices - looking forward to doing the same again with the twin cam when the water cooled boxer is released :D

Pre-reg is definately a win win situation, I've yet to find one though :eek

Picked up the s/h one this afternoon!

Didn't get much knocked off really but got the plastic head protectors thrown in and £70 off!

It's immaculate and rides great.

It's maybe me but she feels a bit nippier than the previous version - and sounds better too!

Really pleased with it.

Nope not just you, it has more horses, revs freer and sounds nicer :thumb2

Its not money to burn, whats the point of having/earning good money if ya can't spend it on what you want and enjoy it
Best regards Stretch :)

My first ever new bike was my first ever GS(1200 on a '09) and the thrill of a new bike finally at 46 was worth every penny. I'd promised myself one day not to have to put up with botches from previous owners. Now I have the cash it's a luxury I can enjoy. I traded my GS in with 12K on the clock and got a spanking new GSA fully loaded(oh hell yes!). I'm happy as I can now afford my dreams and someone has bought a cherished GS. Now that is a win win situation!:clap

Yep - sold the last one in October and bought a TVR Tuscan 2, but the affair was short-lived.

Sold the TVR a week ago and back to a GS.

More than happy to be back on a bike!
