Might seems a silly question, but I'll ask anyway.....

Compared to my previous GS, the LC exhaust note seems much louder. Once it gets to 4000 rpm, the exhaust note seems to get much more raspy and loud. Is it just me getting old, am I imagining it, or are they all like that?

There is another thread in the same lines regarding the TC. Your silencer is set to pass the regulations with the help of the exhaust valve. Once that opens it gets louder. Unfortunately for you, you don't like it and because there was no version of your bike that was fully silenced via the silencer you don't have an easy option to change. If it bugs you either look to aftermarket or wear earplugs which you should be wearing anyway. If your wearing earplugs I guess you need to look for a quieter silencer.

I always use earplugs, and thanks for explaining about the exhaust valve. I take it my previous GS, (a 2009 model), didn't have one?

Speak up I can't hear you. My ears are still ringing despite wearing custom made earplugs, after spending an afternoon on the bike!!

Can the exhaust flap be disconnected to stop it opening?

I'm not sure that is completely true. Aftermarket full systems remove the valve and the bike runs fine.

Jim

He wants the valve disconnected "closed" so it doesn't get louder. Disconnecting it open or removing it is ok but leaving it shut permanently not so good.
