that you should check rocker shaft end-play at the bottom (between rocker and bearing cap) rather than the top of the rocker? The rocker floats on the shaft, so surely it shouldn't matter?.....

I ask this because I just checked mine at the top thinking it should make no difference (it was easier to measure the gap at the top), but all the how-to's seem to say check it at the bottom. :blast

Tell you what - check it at the top and bottom.

Now, Is there a difference between the two measurements.

That'll be tonight's job, but go on - put me out of my misery - have I fecked up

Who's to say the gap stays the same when its running ?

I'd imagine that the rocker will float on the shaft when it's running...

But in answer to St Eptoe...

The answer is yes there's a difference :augie - well actually only on one rocker on one side (the exhaust on the left side measured slightly tighter at the bottom than the top) - the other rockers measured the same top and bottom. But the difference was there, so it'll be rocker bottoms for me from now on.

Always learning.

thanks
Matt
