is there a market for a "simple" R1300GS?

I’m not in the market to buy a new GS . Certainly not a 1300 though the 900 looks ok .
But I do find it a bit cynical that BMW make all these claims of weight reduction then have the gaul to charge you for items to add the weight back on when they should have been standard .
I’ve not trawled the configurator but I’m sure I’ve read that even when speccing up a TE, you’ll want to add a good few £1000 to get the kit you need.

I’ve just ordered a Tracer 9 GR+ and there is literally nothing I need to add on , apart from possibly a top box if wifey wants to come away on it .
It comes with adjustable screen , adaptive cruise, semi active suspension, comfort seats, heated grips, main stand , third generation quick shifter, Garmin sat nav TFT integration ( small subscription required).
It’s so refreshing to order a fully equipped bike that wants for nothing .

I had 4 GS/GSA before switching to KTM, and currently have a 1290 SAR, bought specifically because it has less electronics than the SAS.
Part of the reason I changed my 1290 SAS for the latest 1290 SAR - though I did get the quick shifter :augie

The last "basic" 1200GS I had was one of first WC models back in 2013 which had to be a special order - even got some GS Basic sticker made for it! Getting rid was no problem as I managed to reject it back to BMW when the paint started falling off the engine :thumby:

I am on my third Basic model, first was a 2011 gsa bought new, after a disasterous encounter with a 2014 r1200gsa te I bought a Basic 2017 r1200gsa followed in 2021 by a Basic R1250 gsa.

All have been special orders with the level of tech and toys that I want and have been less hassle than the te model I owned, would I buy a new r1300 gsa ?

NO , not if they are not offering a non ESA Basic model

I also own a KTM , the 1090 adventure S without electronic suspension

Well apart from its a Tracer , a basic copy.

I just priced up the minimum 1300GS I would potentially buy - £15,990 basic plus nav prep and the uppy/downy ride height thingy, total £645. Except it forces you to buy other things in a pack, so the actual total for add-ons is £2,245, total £18,245. Probably wouldn't have a white one either, so add another £830.
I'm not in a position to buy a 13 so haven't even looked at specs and options but holy cow!, £830 to have something other than white!
Are they hand painted?

other paint options are always an extra in the automotive industry, so its not a bad price

aren't they all slightly diff specs so its not just a colour change? diff suspension etc. They are getting ridiculously expensive though. How much is luggage going to add £1500, every extra seems a fortune and poor value for money. Might be one where they bolster the used market with year old staff bikes, cos no bugger else can afford new.

A simple GS has no resale value and ABS , TC & ESA are great as nobody would complain about having fuel injection or a GPS ! The central locking on the new bags is nice too but linked foot brake, adaptive cruise or key fob instead of just a key I could do without ! The TFT is also much better and easier to read than classic gauges and electronic lowering I dont need but comes handy if you are inseam challenged !

Odd thing to say. Does someone wanting a basic bike impact you in some way?
yes it makes me sad that these fruitcakes or poor people exist among us. Like gingers they are unsettling to the status quo.
