is there a market for a "simple" R1300GS?

It is a fairly normal comment from someone who has never ridden a Basic never mind owned one .
Owned loads , glad evolution happened , some of us can engage with change in a positive way , I remember my first 1200 gs , would never go back

aren't they all slightly diff specs so its not just a colour change? diff suspension etc. They are getting ridiculously expensive though. How much is luggage going to add £1500, every extra seems a fortune and poor value for money. Might be one where they bolster the used market with year old staff bikes, cos no bugger else can afford new.
My apologies if that’s the case, I read Squonks post as saying that if he wanted something other than white it would cost an additional £830…
Perhaps someone in the know or in the market could clarify?

I did have a nosey on the website they seem to have created subtle differences between the models specs wise. might just be spoked wheels and a different seat change and the colour.

Have you owned or ridden a Basic R1200 GS/GSA lc or a Basic R1250GS/GSA ?
Why on God's earth would I do that?

I haven't had a meal at a soup kitchen, because a homeless fella thinks they do nice food.

So when you are slagging off Basic models of which you admit to having no experience of you are talking out of your A**E

There will be the odd idiot who wants a basic bike, but thankfully in the minority
And there will be the suckers going for the full cream on PCP  Thank you in advance for listening to your local dealer.

A simple GS has no resale value and ABS , TC & ESA are great as nobody would complain about having fuel injection or a GPS ! The central locking on the new bags is nice too but linked foot brake, adaptive cruise or key fob instead of just a key I could do without ! The TFT is also much better and easier to read than classic gauges and electronic lowering I dont need but comes handy if you are inseam challenged !
You Sir are talking out of your sphincter, All my latest LC are/were basic. On the last GS I "lost" only the VAT after 3 years ;) . Maybe people have woken up to the fact that the extra stuff is not worth it? When you purchase with your own cash you look where the money goes.

So you eat the same soup in a 3 star Michelin restaurant and pay 1000% extra, lick your pie hole and thing its fabulous? It just proves your lack of taste. A pleb is still a pleb even if he can afford the best soup.
PS. If any any plebs were hurt by my comment...I don't give a s***(y)

Just made an order ... every thing on it ........why not......Its the new world out there and before I get consumed by old maggots I will walk into the unknown ..R1250 Ultimate fully sorted may be for sale , never raced or rallied .

But if money is not an issue ( which for me it is not ) I like the to embrace the way manufacturers have moved forward .Sometimes it’s a part of the evolution of the bike . For a basic bike is a no go as it’s just thinking a Peach 1970 bathroom is still good , yes it works but an upgrade is so much better and also it’s 2023 , time to move on and remove your rose coloured glasses . 🤓

I am looking from the perspective of less electronics. I don't need an electric screen, I don't need ESA,

Sorry not familiar with the bathroom you mentioned. Our was cast iron and enameled, porcelain toilet and a bidet art deco job. Something that in UK bathrooms is not a popular upgrade  Evolution doesn't necessary means better. The ABS on my 1989 K100 was quiet basic, the heated grip was great. The ESA on my 2006 RT was excellent, until it went kaput at 18000 miles, I didn't get along with the heated seat, and the CD player was shit so yes was money no object bike. But having an electric screen on an adv bike, or the full cream ESA, central locking, etc just more crap to go wrong at the wrong time. Personally I quiet look forward to the new hybrid Kawasaki or maybe a MEGAMOT from BM. Striped to 200kg would be just perfect. It's quiet amusing that the bike is lighter by 10kg, but by the time you get all the options you add an other 40kg minimum.

I would certainly consider a basic 1300 GS. Only exception would be heated grips. That was reason I go shut of my 1200XE scrambler, was too much tech, nothing went wrong, but I keep my bikes a while and replacing cracked glass in TFT for a grand or rusting swing arms is not for me.
Been loving riding my 34 year old R100gs this summer back to basics, right hand knows how much power to give it, toasty hand and looks great imo

😂😂😂

Why would anyone want a bike GS or not without rear wheel ABS...LOL A real key instead of keyless I would go for but since it has central locking now its OK with me...From now on if you cant get fuel in because you gas cap wont unlock you will also be locked out of your bags...LOL That is only fair and the price of progress ! I just take another key fob battery with me...

My favourite ride is my R100GS from 1989, I do have some more modern bikes but the most modern still has analogue clocks! The only thing that goes wrong on the R100GS is the electronics of which there is very little and it’s easy enough to carry spares. I only ever test ride new models and in a half hour ride have never managed to work out what all the stuff on the display is but the bike rides well enough, usually two up, so I have to assume, rather like the washing machine, one program suits all. I’m not anti gizmos per se but would be against anything that in the event of failure caused the bike to stop or be unrideable. I’m not about to buy one though as my second favorite ride is a 1954 BSA!

I had a 1989 R100GS also...In its day it was a fun machine you could embarrass a few japanese 4 cylinders from the same time on if the road had enough turns but today 60 hp and lack of brakes would scare me off...Time definitely has moved on !
