Is there a Steptoe in Denmark?

I doubt there will be many GS ers in Denmark. A quick check of the Told Skat ( Danish tax centre) with one of my Danish work mates shows that the tax payable on importing my 2002 1150 was over £9000.00- and that's on top of the cost of the bike:eek:
A new 1200 is over £32000

Probably some futile attempt to curb the vicious hells angels here ?

What bikes there are seem to be biased towards cruisers which is understandable once you've driven on the very smooth surfaced roads which lack any real bends...

And it's illegal to import custom bikes......

Or drive someone elses if it's from abroad.

It is a nice country but taxed to buggery.

Thought so

There is a BMW club here.....with 80 members...mmmmm.

I can give you a bed and surround you with 30 something Danish women Niel, but in the 4 months that I've been here I have only seen 1 other 1150gs. Scraping 6 together might be a mission.

Poo. Don't want BMW to look at the bike really. It needs a general tune up and once over really.

Tax aint a nice word over here. I just got my first salary the other week. That'll be 48% for me and 52% for the government then.
:monkeypiz

Still, I'm quite close to some nice riding in Norway though :Motomartin

In fact there is a danish "Steptoe" and his name is Joern. He lives in Svenstrup near AAlborg in Jutland. I´ve bought both new and used parts from his little garage shop which is equipped with all sorts of tools and diagnostic devices for beemers.

BTW: I can recommend that you join the GS Team :thumb2

Best regards

Ah yes. I lived in Kastrup for three years. There was no way I was going to pay Danish tax on a bike so the whole time I rode a UK registered XTZ750 on UK plates. Never go a pull thankfully, even when I was the only bike filtering through Copenhagen traffic. They don't filter over there and car drivers don't take kindly to it!

Been back amost three years and I still get my Danish tax and pension report from Told Skat every year.

Danish roads are ok, the tourist road (magenruten??) was good. I spent most of my weekends on the country roads in Skane and the rest of Sweden though.

Happy days.

What did you do about the UK legalities - just bring the bike back for an MOT once a year?

They do filter a bit further North but it hardly counts when a queue consists of 6 cars!

I err, ahem, tried not to let it bother me too much! A UK MOT is only needed to drive on UK roads you see. That is why events such as the Plymout Dakar are legal.

In acctual fact I did get the Esbjerg ferry ocassionally so I Moted it sometimes just to enable me to keep a non claims discount on UK insurance and EU cover.

I have an HP2 and an 1150 Adventure the thought of registering it in DK is frightening, I can buy a small house for what it would cost me to register the bikes! I am tempted to mostly leave a bike in DK and just bring it here once a year to keep it vaguely legal...

Just got back from 18 days on the island and did not see a single Polis car during that time :)

That is pretty much what I did. As long as you keep the UK plates and display GB stickers I think it should be fine. If you get a speeding fine best to give them the UK address, as if they see that you hae a Dansk CPR# they might get a bit akward.

Watch out for the bikes! The ride reasonably normal white bikes with no obvious marking or dayglo suits, just a small blue light. Not like here where at least they give you a sporting chance of spotting them.

How long are you going to live there for? Is it a permanent move?

So far it is an alternative home - we 'moved in' last month and the plan is let it out during a few summer weeks to Zgermans then friends and family can use it when it is empty. Eventually sell up here in the UK and live full time in DK

Then I can spend quality time watching the wildlife, a little bit of fishing on the fjord and exploring the local forest roads a bit more. I also want to ride completely around the island on the beach to see if it can be done.
