Hi all, my name is Luke

I am looking to organise a ride here in Australia, My ride is a F800gs, so obviously anything BMW is welcome, everyone and all bikes are also welcome (international also).

I was wondering how many ozzies are floating around on the forum, i think we need to put these F800 GS's to the test.

I am thinking of a 2 week from home to home trip. i will give details once we have numbers, i am thinking a meeting point in Melbourne and head from there. i was hoping we would be self sufficient and camp for accomodation pending numbers.

Would anyone be interested? i will post some details once we have numbers.

cheers,
Luke

Possibly, time off from work an issue... Oh and also STILL waiting on delivery of the bike... Hopefully March for me.

I could possibly be interested in a trip to the Flinders Ranges in a few months.
Lets start with a day trip on some back roads behind Melbourne.
Did the Walhalla, Woods Point, Warburton loop last weekend.
450km - 9 Hours

Flinders would be good just up the road from me, The Sky Trek now allows bikes on there track which good and there are a lot of good tracks north of Blinman, not done them on the bike but in the 4x4 its good stuff out there and public access (free)

How many days would you spend riding around the Flinders Ranges?
Would you base yourself in one central spot or travel around?
Any tips welcome!!

There is the Southern end up to say Rawnsley Park Station / Wilpena, Then North up to the Blinman area and then there is the far north to Arkaroola. So you could say there are 3 areas. Dependant on the type of riding you are looking for, the ranges are criss crossed by puplic roads through the gorges which give a good over view of the place or there are the privatly owned 4X4 trails and public access tracks some of which are not for the faint hearted.

You could rush touristy bit it all in a couple of days and have a good look or spend a good week or more mouching around.

Then there is the Gawler ranges, Lake Torrens and the outback tracks Stezlecki, Odnadatta, the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas with dunes fishing ...........................................

There are also some good x country routes into the ranges from the east

Cape York on a GS?

this is true.

would anyone like to put their GS to Cape York & back?

I did Cape York last year on a 450EXC.
It was a hoot!
To do it on a F800GS I would first like to take the bike out on some sand tracks to see if I could handle her in the loose stuff.

Hi Bend,
what time of year did you experience the Cape? this would be a great trip.

I agree totally with your above statement, these are not XR400's nor KTM's so i reckon we'd have to do some off road riding to prepare for the sand/ rougher terain. on that note though it would be awesome fun.

i personally have done a lot of offroad/trail riding but the weight of these GS's do scare me a bit.. ive had the 800 up some trails where ive had my WR and i had to work to get the bike where i intended, harder than usual and the road tyres didnt help:eek: but it did get there and i enjoy a challenge.

Did Cape York in August. Cairns to the Tip via Weipa/Mapoon and back in 8 days. Too many Km. not enough days. Telegraph track was the highlight the rest pretty boring. Didn't have time to do the tracks to the beaches on the east coast like Captain Billy's landing etc. I'll know for next time.

I am seriously considering doing the Safari Spectator Tour in WA on the GS but first a few more trips around Melb. and hopefully Flinders Ranges.

What about a day ride soon when it cools down a little bit.

Ben.
