Is there anyway for fix the rattle?

Premium quality from a premium manufacturer?? Yeah right, reading storys like this makes me glad that I traded mine for another make. Dont get me wrong, I thought my GSA was the mutts, but i didnt want to have to start ticking off the long list of things that go wrong with a lot of these bikes in the future. Cant argue that they are great to ride but ffs the amount of things that go wrong with them, things that never happens to Jap bikes is unbelievable. Ive had my last BMW for sure and that makes me sad but on the other hand Ive moved onto what should be trouble free motorcycling for whats left of my biking life.

You are a little ray of sunshine aren't you :nod

Delboy, I would tend to agree. For the money these bike get, I did not expect gearbox problems. But, I also had big problems with new KTM machinery before. Which required an engine rebuild under warranty.

Dont think there is much point moaning about it though. I just want it fixed.

At least the gearbox can be removed without taking the crank out.

My big problem is, I need the bike to get to work... Im guessing it will take the best part of a day to get the bike split in two, a week of waiting for parts, and at least full day to put back together.

WHich means I have to rent a poxy cage for the week.

Would you not be better off buying something cheap, bike wise for a week or two, off say gumtree and flog it on again after?

So, why are you still here on a Hexhead specific forum then?
With nothing helpful to add?

I've still got money on it being a minor fix. Or better ear plugs!

I pay my subs, so why shouldn't i be here ?? Are you the fuckin forum police are ya ? Plenty on this forum don't have a hexhead anymore but that doesn't mean they don't have anything to contribute. I was giving MY observations on the quality of a machine that I owned for nearly four years, so i think I'm entitled to an opinion. So you can kiss my arse because im an opinionated bastard and im not goong to stop giving that opinion just because you dont like it 🤞

Oh dear Derek, I feel sorry for you. Nothing further to add as you clearly feed off negativity.

I'll be interested to learn what's causing this rattle. Worth asking Mikey or Steptoe maybe? They both have excellent knowledge of these bikes.
If the pushrod is ok, then could it be the slave cylinder not maintain some pressure on the pushrod at all times. Never pulled a bmw one apart, but replaced lots of ktm slave cylinders; they certainly do maintain pressure on the pushrod at all times.

Maybe i do,but you didn't need to tell me i had no right to be here, now that AFAIC was negative. I will not ever apologise for giving what is after all MY honest opinion, whether it be right or wrong i reserve the right to give it.

Plus one.

The 1200 is under engineered in the wrong places - weak final drive and generally questionable transmission. The frame and suspension are largely over engineered.

Erm.... I didn't!
Just wondered why you came on here to complain. But that's fine, I understand why now.
Anyhow, life's too short. Hope you're enjoying your non-BMW bike.

How we getting on with this rattle then?
Any update?

This just arrived. Will stick it in tomorrow and see. Which bit of the end pushes the clutch? Is it the large chamfer or the very end?

So I changed out the push rod, and changed the oil. Made no difference at all. Oil was clear and clean.

there was ware on the old pushrod that looked a little of center.

I do believe now that the input shaft needs replaced. And at 500 quid, plus the time it will take, I think it will have to wait. At least until its first clutch change.

It still sounds like excessive gear shaft endfloat in your video IMO.

Mine makes the same noise. You can load the gear lever (carefully so as not to engage a gear) and it makes zero difference to the noise.

Slip into neutral while rolling and the noise is there. Pull the clutch and it goes away. The clutch will dampen any rattle in the input shaft (clearance or bearings). The fix is wear earplugs until it eventually throws a wobbler or rebuild the gearbox with new bearings and any other boogered-up parts (torque damper?).

I took the bike to mechanic who seems to know the 1200 engine fairly well.

He listened to it and said it was the clutch pressure plate. He had RT apart in his garage and showed me the problem. The steel disc in the center become lose and rattle like hell. The one I looked at was doing the same.

Now I just checked the price of a new pressure plate, and its scarry.
