Im sure its the hose what was leaking, but couldnt find any obvious leaky bits.
I dont think the slave is leaking, but there is fluid in the housing. It may just be a bit oil from the box which has seeped in through time.
I presume that this is normal as there is a gasket twixt cylinder and casing.
Just checking.

So, either nobody knows, or Ive upset too many folk recently.

By the way. I just ordered a clutch line from Clarks. Feckin 48quid+ vat.
Must be making them from unobtanium now.
 
I think it's the back of a washing machine, Den mentions hoses and cylinders as well and my wife tells me we have those on our washing machine.

If so then no, you shouldn't have oil leaking out of it, think how slippery your clothes will be. Check the drawer your wife puts the soap in, that should be clean and oil free :thumb

I'm afraid that's not brake fluid in there but gear oil. The problem is that the gear oil will get on the clutch pushrod and travel inside the hollow input shaft all the way across the gearbox and end up on the clutch. On the 1150, you can pull that seal without disturbing the gearbox. However, I don't think you can get to it without lifting the back frame out of the way, unless you are a surgeon...
If you replace that seal by yourself, make sure you measure its depth before you remove it. Without the factory tool, it will be difficult to know how deep to push in the new seal. I don't think that there is a shoulder to help you position the seal at the right depth.

Thanks Mr Arbreacames. Im not too concerned if its a little gear oil. I would imagine that a bit oil would get through the seal eventually.
It was just difficult at first to tell if the cylinder or the line was leaking. I think the cylinder is ok.

That bit of gear oil cost me a clutch replacement at 40k mi. This was the tell-tale sign:

Hi

You have got me worried now re the picure posted as the tell tale sign, i have noticed a small smear that keeps appearing at this spot on the gear box housing!!!! Is this a sign of impending doom I do not have any clutch problems at this time.

You can inspect the clutch by removing the starter. You can even spray brake cleaner through that opening. If there is indeed oily residue in the clutch housing, pull the clutch slave cylinder off and see if there is gear oil behind it. Once the friction material gets contaminated, it is too late to save the clutch.
 
Oil Seal

Hi

As in my previous post re oil smear around the gear box housing, has anyone else out there had this problem, what was the outcome.
Would I be right in saying that by keeping a regular check on the gear oil level as long as this does not drop the ammount of leak will be insignificant and should therfore not affect the clutch.

There should be NO leakage, if there is it is serious, the whole of the bike from that point rearward has to be disassembled and the oil seals replaced, this happened to my 1150 at 26500 miles, you best replace the crankshaft oil seals while you have it apart, if you catch it early as you have then the clutch may survive with cleaning. The parts will cost about £65.
The dealer will charge you £600 or so to fix it, without a clutch so a call to Steptoe may be a wise move, mine was post warranty and BUUM did not offer any help hence I will never do any business with BUUM ever again.
