is this ok for £400?

Want a laptop, but know nothing about the various processors, i only want it for wireless internet, email and simple excel / word, + running memory map software.

Ideally dont want to spend more than £400, and i'm after somewhere thats easy to get it to or send it back to if theres a problem...hence PC world....so i was looking at this:

I'd try and haggle.

I've got a laptop with almost identical specs, and it cost a hundred quid cheaper. (Ok this was from Malaysia, but it was nearly a year ago...and we all know prices plummet)

hmmm ok then. I looked on Dells site but they have different processors.

Theres 2 on this page, one with a sempron and one with a Turion. The Turion is faster and the Sempron a more budget precesser yes? (well thats sort of what i gathered from a bit of internet research!)

So its either the PC worlds one, but that comment above puts me off, or the £349 or £429 offerings from dell:

If I were you, I'd nip into Woollies or Smith's tomorrow and get 'pc shopper' or one of the other mags...they have some pretty good summaries and buying guides in them which will help you understand the jargon about processors, speeds (dual core v single core etc) and the rest of the guff that goes into a laptop......spend an hour on the bog at work tomorrow having a good old read through and it should help

Dell (and probably some others) also do some very good laptop deals on refurbished items......often, 'refurbished' just means it was sent back due to a cancelled order but the box was ripped open.....worth a search on Google for that sort of thing as well- you might well be able to pick up something tasty for less than new

For £400 i would go with a dell.they use quality parts even on a low buget laptop. Dont worry about the processer if your only doin what you say. Go to PC world at your own risk,youll get less of a pc and the backup is shite. Dells aftermarket sales are pretty good.
The only problem you might have is configering the wireless to the network card in the laptop.

IMHO

DONT buy a Packard Bell they aint great and their after sales service is the worst I ever experienced!!!

Also , despite not being a fan of extended warranties, I would advise you not to buy a laptop without one. Budget accordingly. If you go for a 3 year warranty like Dell's the aftersales service is second to none. I can assure you that you WILL make a claim at some point.
