Is this over the top ??

Apparently red line shock proof transmission oils are not GL rated. Bmw specs GL 5 , give it a go and let us know if it blows :)
 
BMW is a flat twin therefore the oil unsuitable. By the way it is only for HDs. :P
 
It costs about £3 more than the 75w140 I used last time so what's not to like? Quite a lot maybe. More information needed.

The helical gears used in both BMW front and rear gear boxes put high shear loads into the oil. Straight cut gears (as used on most bikes) are easier on the oil. If this shockproof stuff has not got the EP additives it wont last long in a BMW gearbox.

If it has got EP capability it could be the dog's bits or simply be no better than the fully synth multigrades.
 
So on re reading my ramble - if the fancy stuff has all the EP additives then give it a go. Nothing to lose except a few quid.
