Hi Folks,

On the side of my GSA 1150 there is a rubber cap with a large + sign on it, when I remove it, it reveals a silver nipple style thingy. Is this a positive outlet to the battery....ie. If I connect the plus end of a charger to this and the neg to somewhere on the frame, to earth it, will it charge the battery. Is this a connection to save the whole palava of removing the battery???????

Has anyone got the same thing or does anyone know about this????

Cheers

It won't ...

...charge your battery, but it will start your bike.

It'll do both......it's a link straight between the live terminal on the battery and the live of the starter......you can connect jump leads to it to start the bike or use it as a convenient place to connect a battery charger to :)

PS look on the back of the left hand cylinder and you'll find the corresponding earth terminal (unless yours is an aftermarket one and they didn't bother)

Thats brilliant, the whole hoikng out the battery thing is driving me mad.

Seeing as I'm here I posted this in the teccy section today earlier, but no-one seems to be replying whaddya think of this its an ongoing problem I'm having with the alarm/immobiliser:-

I leave my bike un-ridden fro maybe 4 days or a week. Then I come back press my key fob to deactivate the alarm, nothing......nothing happens its dead. I change the batteries in the key fob, no good, I think maybe bike battery is dead so I recharge it. Problem solved.

Fast forward 2 months. I leave the bike unridden again for a week, same problem. This time I push the bike into the back yard to remove the battery. I try the fob, bingo the alarm disengages. I can start the bike now. When I switch on the ignition the bike turns over no probs so it cant be a low battery problem, its turning over a big engine no probs. Its fine now and I'm riding everyday. I figure maybe pushing the bike did something - what I dont know.

One month later I leave the bike again for 4 days unridden. Same problem.
This time I take out the battery thinking its gotta be a battery problem. I take it to bike shop and put it on their meter, man in shop says its a little down but no problems its just over 11 volts. I take it home put it in bike, no problem, alarm disengages and bike starts.

2 weeks later I leave it for 4 days again. Same problem. Now I cant get anything to get it to start. Before I go hoiking out the battery again I thought I'd get a bit of feedback from you all.

My reckoning is it may be a battery thing in that if the battery is lower than a certain voltage the alarm wont start. BUT if the battery has enough juice in it to turn over the engine surely there's enough juice to let me switch off an alarm. If I ride everyday I have no problem which means when I leave it a few days I get the problem. This suggests battery - okay the battery is a little below par but not much - It doesn't make sense.

The alarm is an acumen cat1.

Any ideas.

The battery ...

... will react differently when tested 'on the bench' to when it's under load i.e. trying to start the bike. Eliminate this by putting a new battery on it, hopefully your problems will disappear.
