I must confess I haven't used the APP. Is this the mobile version?

I use TT GO MOBILE and it's great for £30/yr

However, I use MRA to plan. I spend, literally, hours on every route I design because waypoint positioning is paramount and sometimes, even with my reading glasses on, waypoints go astray. Multiple animations to remove any loops is therefore essential, but it all takes time. I find it an excellent planning tool and it ticked all my boxes because in my posse we have both GAR & TT users. The method by which we then upload the .gpxs produced is somewhat archaic and, at times, hit & miss, but we manage eventually. In any case, it's academic, because even if I had the MRA APP on my phone instead of the TT, they would still require the process to be carried out.

TT GO is mainetenance free, has up to date maps (offline - so must be updated periodically), speed camera positions - which, although I have 27 points to burn through on two licences before I am off the roads, I would very much like to preserve my 25 yrs of clean licence(s) - and all for 30/yr.

My question, then, is: what makes the MRA better (if at all) than the TT GO?

The only advantage I can think of is the ability to make changes on the fly. At the moment I would have to log in to the site, make a change and then re-download a new .gpx. I have had to do it the night before, but never on the fly because I put in the work months before.

I have started you a fresh thread for your question.

I’ve assumed that TT is ‘TomTom’.

Yes.

Used for navigation of a route, that has (very often, though not exclusively) been created in MyRoute’s Routeplanner app. The two link seamlessly.

Live traffic for closed roads is why I’m moving away from a dedicated satnav

How?

But also TT Go is very good (probably nicer for day to day navigation interface) but MRA I find better for route planning and has worked out a lot less than £30 a year as I bought lifetime.

Oh, I forgot to trade in my UK licence in Spain. Missed the date. . My friend is a driving instructor so he took me out a couple of times to get rid of "bad habits", let me use all of his CBT and then put me in for my theory & driving test. The driving test lasted all of 12 minutes with no faults to report. She knew why I was there and she knew I could drive.

Spanish licences have 15 points on them (after 2 years, 12 initially) and they are removed as opposed to added. My bike licence took longer because although I passed it in Spain in the 90's I had a foriegner ID then and I no longer had that ID. Fortunately a very nice lady in Madrid located the full bike licence pass certificate for me and I had it put on my new licence. I almost deleted the email as well!!!! Much longer story, though.

Yes, as I say, I use MRA for planning, and I too paid the £99 lifetime fee, but I thought the mobile APP and the ability to use it as a navigation device was extra.

Righto, thanks. So just like TT GO on the mobile then. Does it give you speed trap info/warnings as well like WAZE and TT GO?

Yes, the navigation app is charged separately. That said, you can buy it for a single lifetime fee.

Does the MyRoute navigation app work well? Yes, though other opinions vary, just as they do over many things in life. Whether it’s better or worse than the TomTom offering, I have no idea. If you prefer TomTom’s app and are happy with it, go for it.

Yeah, I get all that, Richard. My burning ❤️‍🔥 question is: does it have speed camera warnings? It's important these days.

I thought TT GO was free, with just the truck version chargeable.

Yes, the MyRoute-app (MRA) Navigation app includes speed camera warnings, but with specific limitations based on location and functionality.

Key Details on MRA Speed Camera Warnings:
  • Visual & Audible Alerts: The app provides both audible and visual warnings when approaching a known fixed speed camera.
  • "Danger Zones": In countries with strict regulations, such as France, MRA displays "Danger Zones" rather than exact camera locations.
  • Data Source: The camera data is supplied by HERE maps, which primarily includes fixed cameras.
  • Limitations:
    • Warnings generally only function when actively navigating a route, not during "free driving".
    • Speed camera warnings may be unavailable or disabled by default in countries where they are illegal, such as Germany or Switzerland.

  • Settings: Users can toggle speed camera alerts and customize the map layout (e.g., hiding or showing camera icons) in the navigation settings.

Users looking for comprehensive mobile speed camera coverage often combine MRA with other apps, such as Waze or Flitsmeister, running in the background.

I use the TomTom app for simple A-B routing, as its offline maps and has speed camera and pretty good traffic.

It is, but the subscription version offers a few advantages over the free version such as offline maps, having "favourites" and it's a family subscription. From what I have been reading the subn vs is way more reliable in many areas too, including the most important for me: speed cameras, which can be hit & miss on the free version.

To be honest I really only use it on my bike, I use WAZE in the car or if I'm going point to point on the bike, but I find APPs like TT/MRA indispensable on a tour with a large posse (usually 7 or 9) where we are all on the same page.

After spending much of the afternoon researching and mulling things over I have decided to go with the MRA APP and paid the £50 lifetime option. It ticks all my boxes. It's preferable to be seamless than faffing about with the rigmarole that is getting it to Tomtom from MRA. My subscription was actually only £20/yr, not 30. It was due to be renewed in June, so lucky I got in just in time to cancel the renewal.

I have also just purchased an INNOVV N2 for the BMW NAV cradle. It looks as well built as the Chiggee (CNC case), but cheaper than the Capuride. I'll leave it there lest I get moved again.

Thanks for all the replies and advice.

Ride safe ✌️
