....I nearly dropped my new bike!!!!
Basically i was trying to get on the bike and the ground was sloping away from me. As i'm a short fat fecker it aint the easiest thing getting me leg over (only the bike mind) anyway i lose it and it starts falling, my only saving grace was a pillar that stopped me falling so i could hold the bike just before it hit the ground.... I was surprised how easy it was to hold it there and lift it back up, probably the adrenalin......

Anyone any idea what protection is available when this happens again? crash bars etc? oh yeah, is a 650GS twin :blast

I guess i should have just got the first one out the way but when you spend more than 7k i want it to look decent for a while longer.....

Suggestions please and feel free to take the pish cus i know you will :thumb

Do not worry Buz.

You seem to have the same physique as I do. You probably WILL drop it sooner or later (best touch wood!). I dropped my brand new F650 about 4 times by now (bought it july '08). First encounter with the pavement was after only 69km :blast! All in all these drops cost me: front left turnsignal, left mirror, slight mark on the left fairing.

But hey, I'm still riding it.

Anyway, if the fear of dropping the bike gets the better of you, you could install crash bars. I have installed the SW-Motech ones. They really work: I haven't dropped the bike since :D. In another thread in this forum, you can read all about different crash bars.

Oh yeah, maybe you can do as I have done: buy some boots with a higher sole, like the Daytona M-stars, they DO make a difference for me.

Cheers,
Gert

I have the Givi bars on my F650GS which are OK protection wise but could do with more resiliant paint

+1 for the givi bars, good price too!!

It's when you drop the bike on your wifeys mini cooper:augie
NO CRASH BARS TO SAVE YOU THEN :bash
