Italian lakes...

Certainly back on form with hotel selection...
Hotel Rebenhof, Neuweier just outside Baden- Baden is right up my street. Lovely room terrific view from my bed across the Rhine valley away to France and the Vosges in the distance. Surrounded by vineyards and a lovely location. Good oh!

Damn pix wont upload again...last lot did eventually but not now.....

I was staying just down the valley in Buhlertal last month. We rode up that road, with your hotel as a waypoint, aiming for the B500 to ride down to Bad Petersal. We had to turn around and find another road up the valley, as they were repairing the surface just south of you. As you say, fabulous views back across the Rhine.

It's certainly a stunning part of the world, and the B500 is a terrific road, but no better than some of the side roads, and they have a 100 limit.
Having said that we saw a pair of locals hanging off their bikes on a bend, on our side of the road...over the solid white line.... and informed opinion is that they have bought the enforcement issuesl on themselves....

Ach well....

Still doing it! Nice diversion along gnarly lanes!

A day mainly on motorways is never a good day, but its the only way to kill a decent amount of distance quickly.
Many of you will know that German motorways are work in progress, and we had imagined that Friday would be even worse; however the day went as well as could be expected...better in fact.
A couple of pee/replacement stops, and several sets of roadworks, those only causing a few minutes delay found us at our next lodgings....
Roadstop Mettmann , at Mettmann oddly, a few minutes from the motorway.
We have stayed here before; it is very quirky and quite delightful.
Our room this time was called 'Death Valley' and whoever designed it was a genius!
Pleased to get parked up and derobed!

Heres a couple more of the outside of last nights stop... quite the best of the trip, apart from Desenzano....and the best grub.
Expensive....so what?

And one of last nights sunset towards the Vosges

The advantage of this joint at Mettmann is that it is only 155 ish miles, 2 hrs ish to Ijmuiden, thus ensuring no scampering along fretting about missing the boat....get to Ijmuiden and get a leisurely lunch board and let the Commodore butler unpack my skiddies while I'm in the Sky Bar

Petrol in Germany is the cheapest we've seen on our trip, so a fill tomorrow will get us a good bit up the A1 north..
One of the bits of kit we use is these Eagle Creek ziploc bags...put stuff in, squeeze out the air and pop in the bags...recommended...
