You'll see that Angry Scot responded. It turns out he grew up in the Dunfermline area and although he now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, most of his family are still in North Queensferry. I could probably wave at them oot o' my front windae.

We've had a few PM's and Garry's offered to show me around with his R1200GS if I get it together to rent one for a couple of days.

I posted the same thread up on BARF and also received a lot of help from folks on there. That's consistent with my experience of visiting the USA and finding some of the kindest, most hospitable people I've ever met. That's one of the things that keeps us going back. That and the stunning scenery, cheap gas and everything else.....

Strangely enough.....probably not.

Mainly because he lives in Santa Cruz which is the one place we've ever been in California that both of us hate. It's like a Callifornian version of Blackpool. I've never had any success finding accommodation there, it's all been grossly over-priced and dirty. Santa Cruz also has the most fiendish bloody one-way system with only one escape out of it. On a couple of occasions I've found myself driving round and round and round.

Also, I've just had a PM from one of the Mods on BARF, offering to loan me his FJR1300 on some kind of exchange basis if he ever makes it over here.

Ultimately, I suspect I'll end up renting a GS from Dubbelju for a couple of days right after we get there and hanging out with Angry Scot and another guy I know there who also has a 1200. Dubbelju have said they can do me a low seat and a RAM ball + power for my GPS, unlike San Jose BMW who can do the low seat but seem unwilling to do anything to help me fit a GPS to the bike.

We'll then rent an SUV, so if anyone here has any good ideas about that...... It looks like the accommodation link on BARF has paid off and we'll probably stay in this cabin for a week....

.....before we head up into Oregon. Someone has PM'd me with an offer of a teepee. The post about Orca watching on BARF taps into my wife's idea of heaven so that's helped as well.

After that we'll probably head up into Washington State. I've already PM'd the guy over on Adv Rider who gave me a brand new copy of City Navigator North America last year and suggested that we look him up and buy him a beer and he seems keen on the idea.

Then we'll just have to find an interesting way to make it back down to San Francisco to fly home on 4th July.....

Make sure you get the real ones made by 'Lion' not the crappy ones currently packaged and sold by Bassets.

There's a sweety shop on the main street in Grantown that sell the Lion ones. Perhaps our mutual friend could collect some for you when he's next visiting the MIL

I was hoping I'd get a wholesale box of them in Makro. I've had boxes of the Lion ones from there before.

The mutual friend seems to have taken the hump with me over the whole BO issue.
