A quick plea to the SS for a man on a charitable mission . .

http://www.roundthecoastforcancer.co.uk/index.html

Rob's machine has expired and left him ride-less. He's mad, as you'll be able to tell if you read his blog, and determined to do as much as he can to finish what he's started.
He's made it as far as my place in Moray and he's got wheels to get him to JOG then Inversnekky tomorrow . . . . but he needs assistance to get from Invesnekky to Fort Bill on New Years Day, plus a place to stay on the night of the 1st.
Can anyone of the SS hero's help this man on a mission?

If you can help, please text Rob 07527795958 and help him give something back to those that have helped him.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

And a Happy New Year to all that frequent the SS - Including the exile formally known as HRH :D

Wow he does seem determined, Looks like he has already passed my place and is further up North or I could have given him a lift from Aberdeen to Elgin. I hope he makes it safely but fear the durse of the closed garages will put paid to some of his fill ups along the way over New Year.

Keep us posted.

Cheers AndyT

Thanks for the offer Andy - Yes , he is very determined to complete this challenge. He got the bus from Anstruther to my place today - 9hrs on public transport to do 150+ miles :eek
He'll be without wheels till he's re-united with his Versys after tomorrow (he's getting a wee shottie of my Transalp to do the JOG bit), so the fuel thing wont be an issue till they are back together!
The power of the thumb will be his means of transport on New Years day from Inverness to Fort Bill.

Come on the SS, help the man meet the challenge.

hats off to his determination :thumb2

I fear he may struggle though with weather/limited fuel stops en route and peeps limited time to help due to the time of year...

Just spotted this, not sure what I can do to help but I will drop him a txt.
I could maybe get him from Inversneckie to the Fort sometime on the 1st.
That would be in the afternoon :augie

GC is the man

Thanks for that GC.

I'll let Rob know to expect a text from you.

Thanks again :thumb2

Thanks GC

GC, Rob says thanks for the text. Hopefully by now he will have called you.

Well, its official - the mans a nutter! And I'm a wus!

Set off from my place in a blizzard, Rob on my knobbly shod Transalp, me on the road tyre shod Varadero. After several "hairy moments", by Nairn I'd decided that I'd had enough. The big, long wheel base delivery van laying in a hedge just before Nairn sort of made my mind up.
Rob, being almost clinically insane, decided that he'd carry on!

Just heard he's made JOG and is heading back to Inverness, where he'll abandon my Alp into the clutches of a crazy Invenesian, who will then introduce him to the festival that is Hogmanay. :augie

Thanks for the help offered so far guys - as normal, the SS rises to a challenge.

Thank You.

glad it all worked out, there's some remarkable people kicking about here...:beerjug:

The party in the Sneckopolitious has been cancelled.

Northern Constabulary said travel routes in and around the Highland city were treacherous

I'm told they had about 6” of snow this afternoon with lots more forecast here over the next couple of days. If I am going anywhere tomorrow it'll be on 4 wheels. I've already had a car do a 360 coming towards me this week.

Just off of the phone to Rob and he has made it to Inversneckie:thumb2, so Ill pick him up early afternoon and get him through here. He has a bed sorted, not sure how he is getting South? Ill update this thread when I know more.

Nice one GC. I must admire his persistance but to be honest all i've heard on the radio this afternoon is road and weather warnings, I'd settle down for a few days if I was him and enjoy Hogmanay up here and carry on later.

Good luck to him what ever he chooses:beerjug:

Now all I've got to do is get through to Inversnekkie to get my Transalp back.

Oh bollox, I've just seen this thread.:blast

Was your guy on a white Transalp in a Hi-Viz jacket, possibly a top box? If so I saw him on his way up to Groats (about 10 miles south) at 12:00 today. I was puzzled as to who it was as it wasn't a local bike and he didn't seem to have much kit with him for a tourist.

Spotted him a bit later heading back South.

If I'd seen this earlier i'd be happy to have helped out in some way (don't know how, mind), I hope your friend gets sorted OK.

Thanks yet again for all that have offered to help or who have donated.

Sitting here with Rob enjoying a wee dram,

He is looking to get to Callander tomorrow night then onto Glasgow with public transport taking Rob to Carlisle where he has options to head further South.
Its all a bit dependant on getting his bike back.
I can understand how frustrated he feels and he really wants to finish this on a bike!!!
A few pics.
On the way up.
