15/50w Semi synthetic for everything except K and S series.

Opies are doing a fully synth for £32.21. They do a part-synth at £31.61 as well. There is Fuchs Titan at £13.85 but not sure about its applicability for motorbikes.

What's an 'S' Model?

I'm sticking with 10/40 in my single and 20/50 (or even 10/40, if I'm marooned in foreign lands) because it's like liquid gold engineering

Change = Load of old bollox:rolleyes:
 
I suppose it just goes to show that you can stick most oils in it. I read the chart thingy in my manual and it says you can put 10w40 in during the winter.
Tax disc?... Why was I not told of this significant development in tax disc positioning?
 
Urgent advice needed. Is it still safe to ride my bike? Should I call BMW Recovery to get the bike to the dealer so they can put the right oil in it?
 
has it ever actually been off the recovery truck...?
 
Never been on one (well apart from the time the LH wing mirror came loose and I had to rush it back to the dealer).

My F done almost 83,000 miles on the good ol' 10/40 semi, it'll be like giving the old girl a blood transfusion .... probably kill her off :(

Is this to do with the change to water cooled and in particular to a wet clutch? Fully synthetic can be just too slippery for a wet cluths but this doesnt matter at all for the older dry clutch bikes.

I just use the stuff I drain out of the mower for the GS :augie
 
As ever...............

...........Outtomunch is ahead of the game and has been running 15/50 for some time now. WMB have, at last, caught up :D

I remember when running my Rotax engined CCM the manufacturers recommended Mobil1 when actually the Rotax lump needed a good old fashioned 20/50 dino oil. Mobil1 was the cause of several engines going bang.
Of course, there is never any sort of financial incentive for a manufacturer to recommend particular oils.............:rolleyes:

When the 1200 GS came out It was supposed to be run on 20W50 Dino as were most of it's predecessors

In the dealers they didn;t have 20W50 in the Bulk tanks (but was full of 15w40 semi synth so everything got that instead!

I mean the management (well renowned for it's frugality!) certainly wasn't going to start paying to crack a tin of castrol every time 20W50 was needed

I couldn;t understand why the sudden leap to fully synth a few years ago Unless it was a knee jerk to the valves dropping off ??

But then again what should we change the oil to in the FD's to stop them f***ing up???

I was thinking of some old scania Ep140W90 for mine when it's together again It's that gloopy the balls rollers will never get near the metal bits :aidan

Or some of that graphite paste liquid grease that they recommend for the tractor hubs on the front axle of Landrovers now ????
