Not sure on the looks - some angles make it look a bit tubby. They should have used a different colour for the press release as thats very similar to Ducati red.
They will sell loads of them though. Closest bike is probably the Kawasaki Z1000S

Wow, when I saw that first pic I thought it was a joke with a BMW roundel photoshopped onto the new Yamaha MT-09 Tracer.

I like it, but would rather it was shaft. Makes the KTMs look so 'last year'.

I see they have the new ABS as fitted on the KTM.
"ABS Pro available ex-works as part of the Pro riding modes option for even greater safety when braking in a banked position.
Whereas the standard ABS systems from BMW Motorrad to date have ensured an excellent standard of safety when braking while moving in a straight line, the optionally available ABS Pro feature now goes a step further to make braking while cornering safer as well by enabling ABS-assisted braking in a banked position. In such situations, ABS Pro prevents the wheels from locking up even when the brakes are applied sharply. This reduces abrupt changes in steering force, especially in response to panic braking, and thereby limits any undesirable righting of the bike. ABS Pro offers riders the benefit of increased braking and riding stability combined with optimum stopping power, even in corners."

I love my GSA and I love Boxer twins but I'm quite exited by this.

A BMW MultiVersysStrada, I like it though, and may give it a whirl next year as a Comfier S1000R with touring ability could be just the ticket.
This is still a few £££ cheaper though, and what does the XR do that this does not ?

The sad reality is - most of us don't take our bikes offroad. The last off-road ride I lead, had 2 maybe 3 twin engine bikes, the rest of the 10 bikes were thumpers.
Of course, I don't include myself in us...
It's only us Watercooled nancy boys drooling JB, maybe we are all hoping they can't fuck this one up quite as much as it's using an existing motor

You certainly aren't included in the road only brigade
Years ago there were loads of GS riders that went offroad at events
I have taken mine offroad a bit abroad
This new S1000 XR does nothing for me
Get a proper 1200 GS instead

I have high hopes for this, I want sporty touring, I want it to fit in my shed, the GSA won't!

I wonder if they will do a full fat adventure version with a big tank and spot lights in a year or so
