I have the slightest suspicion that I might have pinched the fuel pump ring gasket when reassembling everything last weekend.

Full tank.
The fuel station guy wasn't super happy.

30 minutes on the centre stand.
Another 30 when moved to the side stand.

I pushed it back to the garage (I was near home thank god, cold engine) and it pissed petrol for another 20 minutes while I hosed it down thoroughly.

Then washed it down again with soap and 300 liters of water... now resting until this weekend (if I get the gasket in time).

Oh crap!
The left side of the motor got a good decrease .

Maybe buy a new seal now, ready to fit at the weekend?

Took it all out, replaced gasket (the old one was a bit "out of shape") fished out the fuel strip again because why wouldn't you stick an arm in petrol...

Filled it as a test. All works, no leaks. 😎

An arm in petrol, that’s gonna sting a bit !

I hope you havent got any cuts.

Out of curiosity why did you need to fish the fuel strip out?

When I installed the fuel strip last week, the cable got tangled a bit along the metal part where you attach the strip (under the fuel tank cap) and such cables where visible when looking into the tank from the top. (Horror!)
I re-adjusted them so they are routed correctly (not visible from the hole). So we had to lift the metal assembly under the cap with strip and all.
BTW mine is a 2007 GSA, it has a slightly different setup under the fuel cap than later hexheads GSs. On mine you have to "battle" with the metal braket a bit more than what we had to do on a slightly newer GSA (I think 2009).

Anyway, long story short: the bottom of the fuel strip "rests" in a notch on the side of the fuel tank, so it keeps its position in there.
You have to grab it and place the bottom of the strip in there, hence the arm in petrol :)

I hope you havent got any cuts.
Not on the left arm :D
No stings.

Thanks! :D

I'm keeping the tank fuel because, years ago, I was told (I think it was Mikey of this parish, during a "service your bike" training session for UKGSers) that it's safer to keep the tank full when working around it, than empty. Gases are more prone to do nasty things :)

BTW, for the record, this is the other GSA. You can see the different setup of the opening on top. The breather pipes run outside. Mine inside.
You can briefly see the round metal plate that holds the strip and breather pipers on the video above.

I'm keeping the tank fuel because
And also, to be fair, because this happened when I filled up. Needed the bike back in working conditions and couldn’t be bothered/wanted to empty the tank even a bit :D :D :D
