itunes & audiobooks

How do I add an audiobook to itunes?
My ipod shows audiobooks in the menu but itunes doesn't.
itunes has Music, Films, TV Programmes, Podcasts, Apps & Radio.
I want to add a couple of files but I want them separate from the music files, i.e. I don't want them to pop up when I have music on shuffle.
Over to you...

If you buy the audio book from iTunes it will bung it here automatically

If you already have the book, open up 'books' and drag and drop into it.

I downloaded a free audiobook from Audible and now I have Books in my list.
But the other files I want to put in Books don't want to go. They like hanging out with the music.

Perhaps they're books about music

depending on your operating system, look at the options or preferences for iTunes and in the general tab turn on books.
it should appear in there - if you have downloaded it via a cd - right click on all the files and in the info tab, change the files from music to audiobooks.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy

Right click on the music file you want to become a book.
Choose 'Get info'
Choose the 'Options tab'
Change 'Media kind' to 'Audiobook' and the file will move from the Music section to the Audiobook section.

If you have multipart audiobooks in the music section you can join them all together into a single audiobook with Audiobookbuilder
