I log onto itunes and the song titles are there but when I click onto them a little xclamation mark comes up next to them and it tries to get me to find them. There seems to be loads gone like this
Can anyone help me get them back?

many thanks

I guess they are on another drive and its allocated letter has changed. Or you have moved them yourself..

I love Itunes:augie

I have a 100gig of music on an external drive, its letter has not changed, I have not moved them, but I tunes can't see them anymore...FFS

Did you remember to keep the Optimate on it?

Have you tried asking in the 1200 section?

I will get my coat :hide

I checked my ITunes - I haven't got them ...

This did actually happen to me too. I do not know why ITunes lost them, and I cannot rember wth cl;arity how I resolved it. I do know I found the answer through the Apple support web site, so it is not a rare occurence. I think it required rebuilding the library through the ITunes menus, but best check at Apple first.

I lost a whole load of purchased songs when I migrated from one iPhone to another. Apple support relisted them on my account for me and I was able to recover them all. Probably a good first port of call.

Thanks for the (mostly  ) good ideas. I didn`t move any at all, they just couldn`t be played. I`ll look into the apple support site :thumb2

Did you copy the tracks onto iTunes from a CD or a file?

If it was a file, have you deleted the original file?

If so, that's your problem.

When you copy a CD onto iTunes it will make a file & keep it there for future use but when you copy a file it will use that file. If you delete it - iTunes can't find it & that little exclamation marks pops up.

Click on My Documents, My Music, iTunes, then iTunes Music. You will see all the items iTunes has copied & stores for you.

this is very likely what has happened.

windows changes the drive letter, and itunes doesn't seem to look very hard. is your itunes library on an external drive, is your internal hard drive partitioned, or you have multiple drives?

they will be there somewhere. when you find them, this is what i would do:

delete the tracks in itunes.

DO NOT SAY YES WHEN ASKED IF YOU WANT TO DUMP THE FILES.

grab all the original files and drag and drop into the Music pane of itunes & your library should be recreated.

there are other ways if you fancy doing more research.

the other possibility i can think of is that you have somehow deleted all the iTunes Music folder, during a spring clean perhaps?

Okay, I haven`t deleted, moved or otherwise altered the music at all. The music is on my internal hard drive which is not partitioned.
Will syncing my ipod bring back the music onto itunes where it can find it?

On the Mac

On the Mac to check if the path to your iTunes folder is correct, go to Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. Here it will show you the present path, but will also allow you to browse and locate the iTunes folder if the path is incorrect. It is probably worth re-establishing the path even if it appears to be correct.

no, but it might wipe your ipod. i think it will give a warning first, but...:nenau

you still need to find the files and reintroduce them to itunes.

when you've found the files, there's an easier way to get them acquainted again: go to itunes Preferences>Advanced>use Change button to point itunes in the right direction,

Just been onto Apple support and it appears that itunes has wiped my ******* libary. The piece of shit
Once I get this sorted theres no way am I "upgrading" to another itunes version, the pack of ****wits

I id that, (having had the same problem everyone's describing) and iTunes will not save the changed destination....:nenau

you'll have to do as i suggested earlier in the thread i guess.

have to say, i've heard loads of people having grief with itunes, but as for it wiping out the library of it's own volition, that's a new one on me. restore from your backup :augie

ok, use one of the 3rd party apps to restore from your ipod :)

do a search first for *.mp3's and *.m4a's in case you've moved the Itunes folder into another folder as a sub folder. Otherwise you might end up with two of everything! Good Luck!:comfort
