Stop posting things like this as I am fighting the urge to become a 3 wheeler :blast they do look good  The idea of piling all the camping gear in the chair appeals :thumb2

Is this some new meaning of the word "mad" that means "maintenance intensive, slow and rather dull"?

:augie

Eggzackerly.

I hate camping .....specifically, having to duck down and crawl around on the floor etc.

An outfit would mean a bigger tent could be used, with a camp bed rather than a poxy ground mat.....and, crucially, more Beer carried :bounce1

Sleep deprivation. Turns you mad eventually ... :thumb2

Well, That's a nice pair of oufits. Looks like he's (or someone's) spent a lot of time on them (and another on the go by the looks of the vid). Wouldn't mind one like that me-self.

Have you thought about the issue of the chair being on the wrong side though? Spose you could keep it registered in the country of origin. When Plod pulls you over you could always say, Keh?

Some words of warning for the tempted but uneducated....

There are many pifalls for the unwary.

Much as the Flathead sidevalvers look, sound and feel great, even my OHV 650 Ural will run away from them, and that tops out at about 55mph!
(Whereas 750 Ural will typically spend all day happily at about 60mph,sometimes touching 65mph).
The flatties are lovely, but best for country lanes and pottering about...if you plan on long distances allow lots of time.

Referring to the video clips.....those shown aren`t all 'Russian'.

Soviet,yes.

The M62 comes from IMZ or Irbit Motorcycle Works so is essentially a Russian Ural.

The K750 is from KMZ or Kiev Motorcycle Works so is effectively a Dnepr from Ukraine.
A genuine K750 is a purpose built military machine built by KMZ and is an extremely rugged jewel of military biased engineering and almost totally different from a civvie Dnepr MT model.

If you`re looking at a swingarm model,Urals have the swingarm outside of the frame whereas Dneprs have the swingarm inside it.

Ural mudguards are flat topped.
Dneprs are rounded.

The flatties from both factories/countries have a rounded slightly teardrop tank whereas OHV Urals have a seam midway around the fuel tank and
OHV Dneprs typically have a squared off coffin style tank.

To further complicate matters, the Chinese Chang Jiang flathead sidevalver is frequently passed off as a vintage/WW2 machine when it absolutely isn`t.

If you`re tempted to buy any of them don`t be duped into buying a 'nearly complete' one or an immaculate looking allegedly WW2 one.....and BEWARE any right hand sidecar ones without paperwork as you won`t be able to legally register a right hander here unless it has proof that it was previously registed here or elsewhere prior to 1981.

It also goes without saying that if you`ve never ridden a combo before then you NEED proper tuition from an experienced combo pilot.

Val.

As I said above,it`s not a problem if the bike was previously registered here or elsewhere prior to 1981.

1966 registered.....IE legal on that side :thumb2

I don't think it's that simple, sadly. Unless it's already UK registered of course.

Tried looking on the F2 site, but his old site with the info on just flashes across to the newer site, on which I can't find the page. Bugger.

Anyway my understanding of the current sidecar law is that with the chair on the wrong side, the outfit can be used in the UK only if it has been registered for use with-in the UK before 1981. An outfit registered before 1981 in another country can't be imported for use in the UK. Unless this is done by some other means. Talk to Techno, he knows about this loop-hole, though I think this has now been blocked.

Great isn't it, you can register a tiny unstable cheapo Chinese quad and use it on a car license with no helmet. You can import and use a left hand drive car too, but you can't have a left hand drive outfit. What F-Whit thought that one up!

Evening Fannykins.
My opinions..
Do NOT buy any sidevalve twin outfit, excepting the very rare NSU or DKW ones.....
They've less power than a R45 with nearly 2.5 times the weight...
40 mph is ALL you are going to average at the best.
Other downsides are petrol consumption, oil consumption and if you travel at full throttle for more than 60 seconds or so, the plugs will burn out...
Only good point is, with 6 or 6.5 to 1 compression ratio, they run better on a mix of petrol and parrafin, with a dash of 2 stroke oil...
Because.... we can no longer get 80 or 85 octane LEADED fuel.....

Don't forget, they're based on a 20's/30's military design, to travel at 20 mph max... = convoy speed.....

Only combo/ halftrack exceptions from that time
are the panzerfaust carrying waffen SS, BMW ones with OHV engines or OPEL engined NSU Kettenkrads.

Eyup yer old git :kissy2

Not gonna buy one.....I just keep looking and add pics to my file so when I start on MY one (now that Gert's is done and tested successfully) I'll know exactly how I want it to develop :thumb2

Still a bit loath to committing to doing it on the brick though.......Akk, we'll see :blast
