I've got no friends...

buy one of these touratech sports seats, allows you to put luggage tents in line with the bike
dont worry about the blue stitchin and carbon look leather...i did that:D

Think you can do that without buying the Touratech sports seat ;)

Getting your Leg over!

Yes, but then I might find it easier to strap a tent across the bike with no seat.

I've found a part number for a BMW plastic lid thingy.

No price found as yet :-( Why they can't have the balls to publish the prices in their accessory catalog I will never know. Grrrr

Part number 77448523742 is the thingy.

But I do take your point that the seat does a similar job. I also tend to cut the seat with my boots getting on/off :-(

Touratech do a nice looking item called 'Pillion seat storage rack for BMW R1200GS'.
Available in black or silver and clips in place of seat so is easily exchanged for seat should you seek company! Part no: 01-045-5460-0
But around £200. Nevertheless I have just ordered one, mainly because it will make it easier to get my leg over.
Noticed a couple of you having trouble mounting the bike?
Have you never tried using the LHS foot peg to mount the bike? I'm a creature of habit & always do it. No doubt it's frowned upon in case the side stand snaps (anyone?)

Ive got the rear BMW plate cubby hole.. works and looks great easy to fit if youre patient with working out where the screws/bolts all go... Mine never came with instructions

No offense, but that is a seriously ugly seat! I hope it works better than it looks!

The BMW Rally seat and plate is one nice looking option, though not much better than stock.

The Altrider pillion plate is nice, and about 1/3 cheaper than TT. I like it better:

Put an electrical blanking gromit into the seat lock hole.

I always get onto the bike by standing on footrest and swinging leg over. No damage to the seat no over stretching and as you drop down its easier to haul the bike off its side stand.

Most of the load goes down the side stand tube so it's more than strong enough. My 08 GSA now has 50K miles its first owner and I have always used it the same way. No signs of untoward wear in frame or stand. And - I've stripped the back end to powder coat the frame.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Having internet gremlins all over Crimbo :-(

I like the Touratech seat, but had an offer from a member on here of the plate.

So, if internet will keep on working, I may be able to respond properly.

:-)
