Hi folks. Got a 2002 1150gs. Intermittently it refuses to start. Petrol pump fires up ok, ABS lights blink on and off, but there's no spark. Leave the thing a while and it will start and run all day without a hiccup. Last time it happened I lifted the tank and fiddled about with various connections and that did the trick. Tried the same this time and no dice. Any suggestions?

Hall effect sensors fully baked after years of loyal service???

Check throttle cable on right side under tank if sitting out of housing it will upset the the throttle body. The left side throttle sensor recognises it and shuts electrics down ,therefore no spark. This happened to mate on hols in May. Worth look.

NO! Do the basics first

DIAGNOSE IT just don't "swap" things randomly

do the basics first get a coil !

I'd be looking at using a jumper battery NOT a Jump Pack!

Basically to take the load off your own electronics your starter may be causing a huge drain and causing erratic spikes

If it starts okay on a jump battery I'd be thinking along the lines of battery capacity / huge drain at starter

"The left side throttle sensor recognizes this and shuts down the electrics" ......What utter utter rubbish and totally wrong information :D

Then take that up with Bmw Dublin who took the Bike in under Breakdown cover after local Donegal mechanic tried New coil but was unable to find cause. Bmw stated that was the problem.

That's for you to take up with BMW Dublin for telling you absolute bollox. :D. The TPS can't tell where the R/H throttle is positioned, plus it isn't capable of closing down the ignition spark. Can't believe a main dealer has stated such bullshite. The engine won't start/run if the throttle cable isn't seated properly but that's nothing to do with the TPS shutting down the ignition - take a look in the font of all knowledge about throttle cable being fully seated, under "bike doesn't run? "

Dealers, just cannot believe them , charged 185euros for whatever they did. So hard to get an honest mechanic one can trust.
