Hi folks,

Started that wonderful process of looking, dreaming, looking again at the GS ADV. I am not a world trekker but simply prefer the looks of the Aluminium White ADV.

I know the seat height is an issue so today I sat on one (The GS) and found myself to be on tip toes. The ADV is even higher. I cannot believe only biffers out there at 6 foot or more can ride these things.

I noticed the suspension sank quite nicely once on.... much softer than my R1100S (as you would expect).

I am 5' 10.5" (that half is important to me) with an inside leg of 31".... tell me this is OK..... with proof.

Cheers

If you need any proof.. I'm 5'10" with a 30" inside leg (shortarse in other words ;))

1150 GSA... just wind down the pre-load a bit .. you'll cope...Haven't dropped it yet

:beerjug:

Oh, and welcome to UKGSer :thumb2

I'm about 5 8 legs so short they just about reach the ground, I ride my 1150gsa with setting bang in the middle it's fine just needs a bit of confidence.

had it 5-6 years and have only had to lay it down twice in that time due to very bad roads in russia, not cos I'm too short....

if you want to see proof find me on youtube few video of me on my 1150gsa there...

5' 7.5" and 30" inside leg (huge middle leg though:D) and I ride a 1200gs. Okay, tip toe but cope ok. I'd be more than happy with 31" inside leg. Go for it.

im 5"7" 30 inside leg no probs on my 1150 gs just be careful about road camber when you park

5'11" and 32" inside leg, GSA, on my toes!

Low speed manouvers are scary with a full tank.

I ride a 1150 ok no problems and I'm 5'8'' tops never dropped it in two years.I guess it gets easier loaded up feet flat on the floor.

Thinking about an ADV tomorrow with the low seat I was half footed on the ground so am pretty tempted.

Cheeers for all your responses and encouragement.

Has anyone done the maths of taking a std GS and adding the bits that make it look so good... wheels plastic etc etc but the lower seat height??:thumb

I'm 5' 10'' (32'' inside leg) and ride an 1150 ADV (my second) which I am about to put up for sale.
I bought a Corbin Low (heated) seat, and shocks off an standard 1150.
I was flat footed.
I have just replace the shocks for the originals and as it is in original trim, I find it too tall and am not confident.

Mike.

I test rode an 1150 GSA the other day, first time I have ridden one and have to say I am not sure I would be happy with the seat height.

I am 5' 10" and 30" inside leg but was on tip toes and I am weighing in around 17 and a half stone and still on tip toes!!!! Did not instill me with confidence.

Also the whole bike did not really live up to my dreams, I have to say I am gutted!!!! I know I can't compare it to my current bikes a hayabusa and a 2005 K1200GT and I knew I had to ignore the performance factor but I couldn't. I found myself having to ride it like a two-stroke and keep changing down to 4th around 60mph to get it to get a pace on.

I was impressed with overall control of the bike and found it very manoverable.

I was hoping I would fall in love with it at first ride especially as I am moving to France and need to sell both current bikes as can't register them in France because of their pathetic 100bhp law maximum for motorcycles!!

I am going to test ride an R1150RT soon as this has the right bhp and maybe more suited to my riding style.

I am new to BMW ownership and I have to say that after looking at a fair few BMW's recently I am not overly impressed with the finish of the bikes, forks pitting, front engine cases pitting, etc. I would not expect this on such an expensive bike!

Still will keep the search on for the right bike and hope it is another BM.

put the 1200gs low seat on it..........makes all the difference...............:aidan..........i'm 5.4 and i ride a 1200gs........don't be such a wimp......:)

Janie

I can get around the height issue I suppose the main problem I have that I can't get my head around is the performance.

Guess I am just not prepared, yet, to slow down too much!!! I still have the need for speed!

I know exactly what you mean tank, ive just turned the corner so i can still see both sides of the fence clearly :rob

Ive still got my R1 and old skool GSXR as well as a Honda Monkey and a mini supermoto :P I took delivery of my GSA 3 days ago, health reasons mean that sportsbikes are out for me, and, im so far enjoying it ALOT. Fast it isnt, cool and quirky it is, and ive scraped up the pegs already at legal speeds and had more fun :thumb2

its just a different way of riding.................and i wouldn't say the 1200 is slow.........you have to short shift it through the gears.....not ring its neck like a sports bike............you need to use the gears.......not like a litre sports bike that u get into top and stay there..........you actually have to ride this bikes that why they are fun............you get lazy on a sports bike........i know cos i has several of them........sports bikes that is....
if you expect to ride it like a sports bike it aint the bike for you.......;)

Try a K1200S or K1200R - Allan Jefferies will let you out on a demo for a few hours :thumb

Edit: Just seen the comment about 100bhp for France - sounds rather boring unless it's rear wheel horsepower...

If you are dead set on the ADV why not buy one and then fit the shorter suspension from the standard GS:nenau

Genuine ADV with std GS height.:bounce1 Lots of folk will be able to help you on here and make other suggestions:thumb

Afterthought, you may even be able to get used standard units from the FSAW section from somebody who is upgrading their suspension. Cheaper than all the bits to do it the other way.

I think you're worrying too much about your height.
I just tried a 1150ADV I'm about 5'8 max 30 inside leg tops and to be honest it was a piece of pish .The only thing it did have was a lower seat.

I don't ride round at 180mph all the time but I do enjoy the acceleration of the hayabusa and even the K1200GT.

It's only this stupid French law re 100bhp that is making me have to look at getting rid of the bikes.

Oh well c'est la vie as they say.

I am going to jeffries in the morning and will have a look at the R1150RT.
