Hi, has anybody jacked up there 1150gs more than the standard settings and if so how as i have searched the web and i can't find any jack up kits for the bike.
The reason i ask is that i need to make the bike taller as after a big crash in Switzerland i can't bend my knee properly, and i don't really want to buy the lower footpeg mod.
Cheers

Jacking it up wouldn't make any difference to the seat to footpeg distance which, I suspect, is the issue for you if you have difficulty bending your knee. If you don't want to go the lower footpeg route, the only other option would be a taller seat.

What Sctum said +1 You can jack it up 60 feet tall but if you don't change the seat : footpeg position you'll still have the same pain.

Option 1 and cheapest seat hight adjustment is get some spacer washers and remove the front of the seat lock mechanisn. Stack up some washers under it and refit - thus raising the front of your seat . you will need some longer bolts to refit the seat lock of course. You can add a few centimeters but as you seat goes up so the gap at the front of the seat where it meets the tank will increase.... maybe not ideal depending how much you want to raise th height,
Option 2 go for an after market saddle. I have a Wunderlich Ergo-Hi sadlle which raises me 4cm over standard saddle - same result as Option 1 but nice finish and no gap .:thumb2

Excellent, will have to do the seat mod will try the washers first then if it works it will have to be a new seat, but i have a strange feeling i'm going to have to get the peg mod as well.
Thanks chaps for you advice

Assuming that the pegs on your 1150 are similar to those on my 1200 (and every other GS I've seen) then there are cheaper options than the 85GBP that most aftermarket footpegs seem to cost. The standard pegs put your feet above and behing the mounting points so the trick is to scour the breakers yards and friends spares boxes for something that sticks straight out. I used Triumph Tiger rear pegs because I already had them but BMW items from something like an R1150R would be easier to fit because BMW appear to use an 8mm clevis pin on all of their pegs. The improvement in comfort (I have a 36 inch inseam so I like lots of space) is remarkable, and all for a few spares and the price of a pint for the friend who machined up the spacers (Triumph use 10mm clevis pins and I didn't want to drill my frame).

There are lots of poeg mods out there - some give more clearance than others. Try http://www.migsel.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=29 - he does some which lower a bit (3cm) but not too much. Also Fastaway foot pegs have 2 positions - I use these on the lower setting and have never got close to grounding them .

I can recommend migsels footpegs, much comfier riding :thumb2 and the only time I had them ground was when I had a fat bird on the back :bounce1

Thanks chaps for all your replies, i am just about to undertake the seat mod (10.30 wed morn) now its stopped raining, then I'm off out to see if i can find some old foot pegs.
Will keep you informed with my progress

Be Lucky :aidan
