Commute summer and winter . Am looking for a textile 100% waterproof outer shell with zip and press stud closing.(not velcro) Dont like the idea the outer shell gets soaked, with an inner waterproof lining. Advice appreciated.

I'm looking at the klim badlands stuff, been looking for a while and can't find anything else as good. Only downside is I can't find it any cheaper than £749.

Big review of (cheap) jackets in the last issue of RiDE magazine, including some with no velcro and the bonded goretex material you are after.

Be quick, the new issue is just out so WHSmith will be removing unsold issues from their shelves.

Anything with a Goretex Pro shell. I buy most of my stuff second hand on here. JJH

Pro Shell is the way to go.

I'll also mention that I have a Hein Gerike Master V jacket up for grabs. Slightly faded, which seems something that they all do.

Not got the storm collar though. Size Euro52.

I just bought a Klim Badlands jacket and trousers (arrived yesterday). It has snap fasteners at the top and bottom of the flap covering the zip, with four little velcro tabs down the middle. You don't get that sensation of trying to rip a phone book in half, like you do with velcro running the full length of the zip, but if you're allergic to velcro or something, it still won't be for you.

I bought mine from http://adventurebikeshop.co.uk/ and can't praise them highly enough. I ordered a large, but it was too big for me. I phoned to ask what I needed to do to exchange the large for a medium. Without missing a beat, Jenny said she'd get UPS to collect it. They picked it up an hour later (in the middle of the countryside in rural Ireland). They had to order in the medium, but the whole exchange took only a week and they never charged me a thing for the shipping! Top class service. They'll be my first stop for bike gear and accessories from now on. :thumb

Been researching similar for a while. By far the dominant fabric in jackets where the outer shell (rather than a liner) provides the waterproofing seems to be Gore-Tex Pro Shell. One alternative I found was Macna's Impact jacket - it uses Macna's own proprietary fabric. I know nothing about it, other than because of its price, I'd definitely try to get an in-the-flesh hands-on look at one before accepting that a GTX Pro Shell is the only option.

I posted a list of waterproof-outer-shell jackets somewhere on this thread:

Interested to hear how you get on and what you choose.

There some fabric jackets which have waterproof outers in the sub £200 range, as featured in the Ride article Wapping mentions. Downside of these is they are not breathable for when it gets hot. Some have vents though.

It all depends on the price point you are aiming for, as you do not mention this.

For me, when commuting, I found the Hein Gericke Cruise jacket with bonded Goretex layer to be my favoured jacket. Vented for hotter day and you don't need to faff about finding the outer layer if it rains. Treat them with something like TX Direct once or twice a year and water does not soak in very much. But each to their own. I also find using more than 1 jacket and rotating them based on ambient temperature, laundry cycle etc. to be more convenient.

Like another poster, I have bought a number of top quality clothing items on this forum including a Rukka suit and a HG Cruise jacket. I would be snapping up the Master jacket mentioned above if I was not already equipped with 3 excellent jackets.

thanks for advice so far .price point up to 400.00 pounds ish

You're sorted so - there are a few Gore-Tex Pro Shell jackets in that budget. At that price, I'd be looking at the Badlands Pro as mentioned, and the Alpinestars Tech Road (I like the subtle minimalist style of the latter). Stretching budget a bit further, the Held Cadora would also appeal to me. No personal experience of any of these - just what I'd be considering.

Ive bought the Klim Overlands jacket and trousers, pro shell bonded 2 layer and 3 layer trousers, vented with big zips, usual guaranteed waterproof and looks cool, bought from Adventure bike shop at the bike show

After spending weeks researching and doing some touchy-feels stuff, and having similar requirements to your post - looking at everything including BWM-branded kit; Rev'it; Held; Rukka; Dainese; and Halvarsson - I've settled on the latter.

I'm not a huge fan of bike-specific branded kit and, while I ruled-out the Rallye 4 suit, I thought the GS Dry suit might fit the bill; unfortunately, I doubt it would be warm enough for our pleasant land during wintertime. The 2016 GS Dry suit material was flexible and soft, to the touch.
Rukka, I felt, would be like wearing a cardboard straight jacket. And it comes in any jolly colour, so long as it's black. No thanks.
The Held kit seemed to fit the bill, till I noticed it too was very, very stiff. The same applied to the Dainese suits and they had drop-out waterproof liners which, for £900, well....
Rev'it Poseidon suit came close, with a soft feel outer shell, but the colour choice didn't appeal.

The Halvarsson Prime covered all the bases for me, and matched up with the Prince pants.

One thing to bear in mind is that no suit/jacket is completely waterproof - just some keep you dry longer than others. Riding into a spray-laden atmosphere, with a fifty MPH headwind inevitably permits moisture to seep past sleeve cuffs, neck openings, and wick up from your ankles.
Use technical base layers to compliment is one golden rule; and the second rule is to keep the kit clean to allow the membrane to breathe in the way it's designed to.
And, finally, summer rain is always better than winter rain.

Happy hunting.

I have a Halvarssons safety jacket, with both summer and winter halogen outers, one for summers (vented) and the other for winter).
Got them from Hideout a Leather, and Kate put a zip on the collar of the winter one for colder or wet weather so I can attach an extra collar.
Never been even slightly moist on the inside even in really rainy rain.
One jacket all year round.

I have a dainese jacket and pants, not too expensive. They have a removable thermal liner, and zip vents, for the summer. If it's absolutely pissing rain, I wear a light rain jacket also, keeps me dry. Had the jacket for 3 years. ymmv.

Badlands Pro from FC-Moto for £382: http://www.fc-moto.de/Klim-Badlands-Pro-Jacket

Not sure of the differences between Badlands vs Badlands Pro, but they both seem to use Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric. IIRC, I've seen discussions online regarding the differences (perhaps even on here). IMO, the differences would have to be pretty spectacular to justify a doubling of the price tag...

Try choosing the size you need from the drop down list. Most of the larger more common sizes are gone.

I'm selling a brand new Hein Gericke Master 6 Gore-Tex Pro Shell jacket. Unworn with tags.
Cost £700 new, sell for £350. Size euro 58 so a UK 48.

cheers
