Jackets for off roading / on road (help me find one)

TBM

HI, just seen this months trail bike mag and they have a review of a new jacket by Dutc:thumb2 h firm Difi. Looks good.
Available online (apparently) at riderz.co.uk

Howzabout thinking outside of the box??

Get one of these;

And then either wear just a light sweatshirt, or a lightweight showerproof jacket over the top.

You won't find anything better for protection, or for being cool in hot weather....and as you choose what to wear on top (if anything) you can make yourself as warm or cool or waterproof as you like.

There's something quite liberating about wearing one with some short MX gloves and a helmet....it feels like you're not at all ATGATT but it's very safe :)

(Poncy snob mode ON) Yup, just had a look at these and although the price was good, the style was a bit basic (Poncy snob mode OFF) + I've just realised that if I go for a Hein Gericke jacket, it'll zip straight onto my Gericke leather trousers.

Howzabout thinking outside of the box??
Yup, did that one already as a couple of my motard mates had suggested it.
If I ever start to get into off roading in a major way and do it a lot more than road riding, then It'd be a strong contender but seeing as it's all a bit new to me, I don't want anything quite so focused at the moment.

I know you've said no to BM clobber but if it's mainly the price then you can afford a rallye II. I just got a brand new jacket for £255 to my door, youi've just got to hunt a bit. I've got a HG tuareg but found it wouldn't zip up properly at the neck with a fleece on and also the waterproof liner is also thermal. Great in winter but means you'll roast if you want to be dry in the summer.

At the end of the day its down to what fits you best but in terms of fit, quality and armour the rallye (for me anyway) is superb.

In all but the darkest depths of winter any jacket is roasting off-road unless your on fast fire roads and a smelly helly/dainese impact top/ ls jersey combo much better for local ish jaunts ( i find anyway)

That my two pennerth worth :)

re the DIFI

Difi Ventura AX Jacket, as mentioned in this thread. I checked out the site and the jacket seams like its the goods. It has separete gortex and warm liners which means it should do the job all seasons. Has anyone checked them out yet. My only concern is the outer shell, my savannah jacket has a very tough shell that has survived many excursions with tarmac and dirt and still is going well. Would appreciate any feedback as im down here.

The jacket you want hasn't been made yet! If you do find it, let us know.:thumb
I use a Sinisalo enduro jacket, which is waterproof(ish), tough and has plenty of pockets. Worn either over my leather jacket in winter, or over a protector shirt in summer.

yet!

hey earthmover your right but they will get there. The day will come when the jacket will be 4 seasons but also have the full body armour ie dianese etc and the pants will have a knee brace built in. Now that will be cool.

Revitt

For those looking for the Revitt textile gear have a look here. The 'Off Track' and 'Cayenne' look good. Some more info here.

I've got to say that I'm very taken by the 'Off Track' jacket. I've tried on a couple of the road orientated Revitt suits and they seem very well made, they also get good write ups on :adv:

I'm going to be replacing my Rallye II next year and I think this is the way I'll be going :thumb2

Walk into a Hein Gericke shop and it's all there.

I've got the HG Cruise GTX jacket. Waterproof, can wear four seasons, etc.

Update on the hunt for a jacket

OK, I saw mcneedham had his jacket up for sale, I went down to Hein Gericke to try one on for size but unfortunately the one he had was a tad too small for me.
I did like the style though and liked the look of the black & grey version - not too garish, no bright flashes of colour, more pockets than Fagin could care to pick and waterproof even without the liner and zips straight onto my leather Gericke bottoms.
I was offered a black & grey one in a larger size for a very amicable price, and at the Alton cafe last night, a deal was done.

Now got me one of these. :D

I am well pleased with my recently bought Hein Gerricke Cruise Jacket now after using it a couple of times in varying weather. Plenty pockets and well placed. I find the left hand cuff pocket very useful for small items such as change. I did find the standard zip pulls rubbish and replaced them all with zip pulls I made from nylon chord. They are far easier to use now, even with gloves on. Yesterday it was quite sunny but still a bit of a chill in the air so I wore a BMW Phase Change top under my Crusie Jacket (Liner removed). I opened all the vents and off I set. The combination provided me with a constant comfortable temperature for the duration of the ride. I was on road and off road (nothing strenious though) and the jacket was very comfortable. The run included an hour's stop where I was waiting in a shop and I never bothered taking of the jacket and was surprised to find that I didn't start to heat up and get sweaty. Just remained comfortable. I had a long look around before buying this jacket and it ticked more boxes than any other one I looked at.

BykeBitz in Yately are doing some very decent looking kit at the moment.

First one is a selection of textile jackets and trousers.there is a road biased and a fully ventilated set that looks the spitting image of the genuine BMW stuff......but is half the price, from what i checked,it appears to be very well made.Comes in Black or a grey/blue made by a company called REV IT.

The other type that they have just got in,is apparently using the same manufacturer and materials that Rukka kit is made out of.......tonnes of pockets and vents to keep even the most gadget obssesed happy and looks to be very rugged.Black and Urban Camo design, black and orange camo for the second set and the a silver and red set that looks like a motorcross design......again,about half the price of the BMW stuff.

Both types are the traditional jacket and trousers set-up like the Hein Gericke Touareg doobies.

did you find out if they were very tough as i am thinking of getting this item and trousersthe difi ax ventura clothes thanks
