I know this has been discussed at length, however here we go again...
Guys what are your thoughts on the current offerrings in the way of adventure/rally gear. I have had a savanah bmw jacket and pants since day 1 and while impressed with them having saved me on many stacks on bitumen and dirt, i am sure there is better available now.

The perfect jacket would be.....tough so it could slide down the road, have an internal frame like the dianese body armour, be well vented to take air in at all angles, have a water proof insert for rain, have a fleece insert for winter and a collar that conects to a kneck brace that they used in the dakar.

The pants would be like wise but include knee brace frames to protect knees without the usual chaffing that some times occurrs with braces.

Any thoughts......

BMW Jackets

For my money the BMW jackets and trousers are overpriced.
I tried on some gear last week, but then went to Hein Gericke here in Edinburgh where I was able to buy the Tuareg Jacket and trousers with Goretex liners for less than the BMW Rally jacket alone. The spec is very similar, and the quality of the HG gear is good.

Just got a new RevIt Cayanne last week. Very pleased with it so far.

Thought the BMW stuff was well designed but looks a bit Ewen McGegorish! Cayanne has same quality & features as Rally 2 but for less money in my opinion.

HG praise or prise open?

I just wish HG would use proper zips..... flimsy liners get snagged - impossible to sort out without removing gloves etc. Impossible to get phone out whilst riding

The only problem with Rev It over here is that nobody stocks their top end stuff. All the Rev It dealers seem to be vfm type motorcycle outlets and so they don't have the Cayenne to try on.

I must say their stuff does appear to be good quality and is highly praised on :adv: I'd have bought it instead of my Rallye 2 Pro if only I could have found one

Rev'It - counter opinion

Did a bit of research and went with the Rev'It expedition jacket in August last year.

My initial impressions were pretty good. The jacket felt like great quality, was well designed and was a good fit. Looked good too and I'm ashamed to say it but that mattered a fair bit

Have been riding everyday since then and not so impressed anymore. Just noticed last week the jacket has split along two seams where different textiles meet. On split about 3cms long on the front right shoulder and one split slightly smaller on the rear left shoulder. The front right one is perfect for filling the jacket with wind and rain!

I reckon I will be going HG next time, I expect more than 5 months for my £250

I'm looking to replace my Belstaff Katsai jacket and having looked at the HG Cruise jacket I have to agree with Slow Granger about the zips . Having said that HG have been good with after sales though prevention is better than cure.

I have the Rev'it Cayanne Jacket and Ultimate trousers. Jacket is good, loads of pockets etc. The down side is that it gets very heavy when wet although the zipped pockets are waterproof. Rain goes through the outer fabric and is stopped by the waterproof liner. In heavy rain, water runs off the liner and down the legs.
The trousers with the waterproof liner fitted have proven to be only shower proof.I have had two liners from Rev'it and would not trust the trousers in any more than a light shower.

The armour on both jacket and trousers proofed tobe well upto the job during my recent tumble.

BMW gear is good but generally overpriced if you pay full whack. There are usually some dealers with end of year / end of range sales, or who will offer discount on clothing without too much effort. If you know your size a bit of phoning around usually pays dividends.

I bought my last Streetguard jacket via e-bay, Studemann - a German BMW dealer for approx 30% less than UK. Postage was cheap and goods arrived within a couple of days.

... Halvarssons ! Got their Amazon jacket and it is top kit. The 'safety suit' is a little OTT but is on a par with top class leathers

Have just managed to get 30% discount off the Rallye 2 suit from Bluebell BMW in Crewe. A whisper under £500.....

Yes a bit Ewan, but only £50 dearer than the Hein Gericke gear....

I bought the Hein Gerricke Cruise Jacket and trousers about 12 months ago...

As far as I'm concerned they are the dogs danglies My only criticisms would be

1) why isnt there a waterproof jacket on the inside???

2) It wasnt cool enough when riding through the south of France last summer

But, it did cope with the Dragon Rally in February and I was warm enough..

my other arf has just purchased the halvarsson furia jacket and claims its the best jacket she has ever worn. and thats some statment.....belive me
