Hi,

Don't know if this is the correct place to post but can anyone give me any idea about JAX MOTORCYCLES, James Street, York, YO10 3WW. I have seen a few bikes on their site I fancy but would have to travel up from South Wales so a long way to go if they are not worth it.

Thanks in advance.

38 views I appreciate its apparently a yamaha dealership but I was hoping somebody might of been there. I only want to know if its worth the 4.5 hour trip?

Sorry, I don't know the stock in Jax, but the Triumph dealers near it has some nice clothes and things, and helpful staff, and York is a truly lovely place for a day out, with loads of history visible, some great medieval walls to walk around, ghost walks, nice eateries and some good museums. Even if Jax isn't worth it the local area is well worth a visit!

Thanks Mark,
I have visited as a tourist a few years ago when my sister lived in Haxby. Luckily for me another subscriber has offered to go in and have a look at the bike I am interested in, so if I do come up I will buy you both a drink.

Cheers

Hi,
Jax are quite a good set up to be honest, my mate has bought a few bikes from them in the past and they always are really tidy bikes. It seems as though their lower priced bikes move really quick, but that may be more to do with local trade rather than condition of bikes IYKWIM.
The F800GS he has at present seems to be in very good condition but with few farkles, in fact I'm going to have a second look today. I missed out on the 1200GS he had recently, that was very clean.
If there is something you want me to look at just let me know.
The RTs he has look quite tidy as well but I haven't crawled over them to be honest.

They originally started up as car dealers, but moved onto bikes selling them at the lower end of the price guide, but also having a quick turn over which built up stock and their reputation.
They are bikers and one of them has done a Mongolia trip on a 125 recently and now rides a Yamaha xt660.
They are a friendly bunch who will give you the time of day.
Any other Qs just ask

Good luck

A friend of mine purchased a bike from them several years ago & had no issues. I've visited the shop & they've always been helpful (keen for me to take a bike out for a test ride).
I don't know them well but they come across as a traditional bike shop with no big dealership costs so offer reasonable bike prices to keep stock rolling.
Saying that, I thought the price of the 2008 F800GS a bit high - it doesn't have any accessories altho the mileage is very low.

They have a shop on ebay & looking at their feedback seem to buy a lot of stock that way but the reviews are positive.

I'd offer to help but I'm not very mechanical to be of real assistance in your purchase. Good Luck! :)

Thanks all I hav been contacted by another subscriber who has kindly gone to the shop and completed a comprehensive vehicle check on the bike I am interested in (its ok Richie its not yours) I am now very interested in the bike and will be giving them a ring soon.

regards

Steve

I remember going in Jax when it was a tiny place down Walmgate, that would be the mid 60's, they sold Itoms then. Later, they moved to much bigger premises on Fishergate and sold Ducati and Triumph's (350 Desmo anyone?) . Don't know if the current shop has any connection with the original Jax's shops

I bought my 1150 GSA from them a few years ago no problems whatsoever and he gave me a very good px on my 45'000 mile 1150GS unseen. I think he gets the part ex bikes from the bigger dealers ( mine was from Mill in Sunderland)
I have no problems recommending them.

Thanks all the bike is still there along with two or three others I have seen. Unfortunately they are all as far apart across the country as could be but. Hopefully I will have one soon.
