I’m sure John will be along with day two of the w/e, but in the interim a pre-emptive!

Bev and I were off over to the coast for pastures not visited for a while, taking the usual long but quiet way round we travelled up to Baysdale (dead-end road to very few buildings) to admire the brand new and very expensive re-surfacing (why?).

There’s a green lane at the end that I rode up on the Serow late last year, bit of a thrutcher but looked lovely with Capt Cooks monument and the heather. Heard bikes and low and behold some trail rider rode up – much easier on their machines than anything I have to hand!

A notable memorial up there tells a very sad tale indeed.

Passing through Castleton I spotted a GS and thought, looks like a JB machine, but thought no more.

A brief few miles later me mirror is full of JB! ‘twas he! :clap

With no particularly timescale or plan John tagged on and we took some scenic routes avoiding Whitby (Regatta!) and down to Robin Hoods Bay. John couldn’t remember being down there and won’t get the opportunity on the bike today either. As most places round the Yorkshire coast yer ****ed if you want to get down unless via foot. Fine if you park your car up, less good on a warm day in bike wear. Seems to be the pattern though - just means we don’t go, even out of season I can’t be arsed, feck ‘em. Staiths, Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay – leave em and go elsewhere. (We do like to drop in during epic walking rounds mind).

It’s been quite a few years since I was last at Boggle Hole and since then the fascists have been out and slapped a ‘no vehicular access’ sign there too. Understandable with summer crowds and car-loads of folks theses days, but PITA anyway.

Before getting there we took the lovely little cut-through that is effectively a shallow ford you ride along then up a tight steep lane.

John was perplexed being on his mint machine, but we didn’t mind taking ‘the classic’ along. Note the foxy grin ;) A bit of tutting later we were through with John telling tales of a ‘huge rock’ that nearly unseated him . A good thorough investigation revealed what I might term ‘large gravel’. (Only joking John ).

Bikes intact we discovered the ‘no vehicles’ sign for the final leg to sea, so left.

A trip to catch Beacon Farm just before closing for an ice-cream (cheers John) then to Sleights for more food, F&Cs. Second day in a row for us, phew. Bike parking available and they even let John take a metal knife outside – H&S madness, theft problems or they just saw a savage motorcycle hoodlum? Who knows, anyway John still has the blade (of course he doesn’t!)

Bev and John’s camera have ‘food’ settings – though the food was good enough without beautification. Neither have a ‘smile’ function though – but both did enjoy their food honestly! :thumb2

Back through Whitby by the back route and home the reverse of the Outward, great day, great company again John, pleasure bumping into you and sharing the experience.

Good one, it was nice to 'bump' into you two

Hope you're looking after my 'new' bike and you washed it off promptly on your return home:D

Nice one Fritz, JB says he couldn't keep up with you on the road even though you were two up on an old airhead :D
