jerky, back-firing and over reving

Just had my 05 1200 out. Its a bit cold outside.

The bike is running fine, than as I am back off on the gas the bike is rather jerky and is back-firing. Then at a stop it revs up to 3,000 rpm.

I turned the bike off and restarted it, still the same stuff.

Any ideas?

Mine did it too...

... minus the over-revving. They look into everything, re-sinchronised the throttle bodies, reloaded the FI mapping, etc.Nothing. It turned out two of the spark plugs had the porcelain part come loose and spinning on the core. It was running absolutely hooribly, to the point that it was unsafe to venture into traffic. Replacing the spark plugs took care of it. Now, bad sparkplugs can't explain the over-revving...
 
A leak on the inlet trumpet could cause the backfiring and over revving at tickover as it will be sucking extra air in leaning the mixture and raising the revs. It'd confuse the brain as well I'm sure
 
Have you hade the bke apart..side panels off, tank raised etc.

It could be that the outer cables or bodies on the throttle cables have been raised on one side and are resting on the adjusters rather than inside them. If you look at the knurled sections on the adjusters see if the cable is sitting properly. If it is not then you will get the symptoms you speak of.

if you told the brain it was running a bike it would be confused,i doubt it would have the nowst to run a kettle.

I called the Dealer, he said it was water in the gas. He said due to all the rain lately a lot of gas station have water their gas. He told me to put some methyl hydrate in the tank and go for a run.


Does that make sense?

Ignore my comments...I thought you had a 1100, 1150. Did not read the thread properly. :confused:

Back in Scandinavia, during winter, we constantly put a bit of alcohol into the petrol to break up the water drops that form in the tank. The alcohol makes the waterdrops fit through the carb/injection where it normally would have been too big - and thus causing hiccups. In Scandinavia you usually buy a liter bottle of it and chug a bit into the tank every time you fill up...
 
It could be worth checking your drain hole/pipework around the fuel tank filler neck hasn't become blocked with dirt, a mates 1150Adv did this and when they get water in the fuel tank, the fuel level meter goes awry. A good water dispersant for fuel tanks is either Wynns dryfuel or Silkolene ProFST.
