Is it just me, but when I brake at low speeds it seems to be jerky. Does anyone have this also or is it a problem with my brakes.

I thought it could be warped disks, but then I thought it would be more apparent at speed.

I have not tried without ABS yet but i thought I would ask before I spoke to the dealer.

Jerky Braks
I thought maybe he was a new member!:D

My 2004 model with integral servo ABS has the same problem and it is due to a very warped rear disk and slightly warped fronts (at 30,000 miles). I need to replace the rear disk as it is below the minimum thickness now and I will probably go for a set of braking wavy disks as they are cheaper than OEM and hopefully less prone to warping.

I dont tend to brake much thanks to a smooth riding style but the problem is really evident at slow speeds in traffic rather than slowing from greater speeds, and can be minimised by being very gentle with the brake lever.

That is a bit rubbish, I have had muine for 3000 miles (7000 on it now) and it sounds like I have the same issue. I too notice it in traffic, generally pulling up to junctions and makes me look like a fool with a Kangaroo stylee stop :spitfire

Pie Man - it could be non of the above too.

I presume it is a bit juddery when you apply a bit of front anchor on at low speeds or is it just on the rear?

I aksed the mechanic last week about this and he checked my discs out and said they were fine, but he commented that it is not unusual for crud to build up in the air holes on the discs AND for the pads and discs to become glazed if you are not a heavy brake user. SO, what he told me to do was to be a bit more brutal on the brakes and stop relying on the armco barriers and other fixed items to slow me down (that was an attempt at humour).

I tested the rear, it was a little but not as apparent as when I apply the front. I do do heavy breaking, normally I am a last minute broown-trouser braker.

I have an uneven sensation as the bike comes to a halt (not perceptible when first applying the brakes at normal road speeds).

I had a problem with the rear wheel, and the flange (part 13) was replaced:

My dealer has decided to replace the rear disc too ... I'm hoping this cures it.

I'll let you know.

It is booked in tomorrow for the recall work so I will get them to check it out at the same time.

Thanks for the pointers guys, I will be armed with a little more knowledge now

My 2006 servo / ABS model can be very jerky at extremely slow speeds (junctions, manoeuvring), but I put this down to the inherent complexity of the servo system. I'm not hard on the brakes at all and under normal riding conditions everything is OK. I suspect a non-servo model would be OK as I never had this jerkiness on previous bikes with normal brakes.

+1

I like the servo brakes, but they are sensitive and can be hard to modulate at low speeds. I tend to use the rear at low speed to give smooth stops and control when creeping forward.

my 2006 servo/a.b.s. is very jerky / vibrates at all braking speeds:blast.it's being looked into at the moment.

Well it was in today haveing it's Software Upgrade and brake lines replaced.
Software update wouldn't work all day in from 8am till 17:00.
They looked at the disks and said they are warped, but not warped enough to replace on the warrenty.

Bastards, I have a trip planned (well not really planned) in 3 weeks and doent want to get back with wonky disks.

my bm dealer said my disks are slightly warped tho riding in the rain yesterday i noticed how much better it is using both front & rear brakes together (im quite heavy on the front normally).done some miles this morning in the dry using my altered riding style & things are a lot better :clap

When I recently put my 1200 in for its 6k service I asked the dealer to look at the run-out on the discs as I'd also noticed that the brakes were a little lumpy as I come to a halt.

When I took the loan bike out (3k on the clock) it was the same! When I returned to the dealer they said they had checked the discs and they were within limits.

I think this is a case of 'They all do that, sir!'
