Tell me what's good and bad, about them...........

Are the racks on top of the lids worth the extra??

They look terrible and they're painted with what looks like Hammerite!! :)

Which means you could touch up the scratches easily I'd guess
I don't own panniers but if I did I'd buy Jesse Panniers why?
No1 very little unsightly scaffolding on the bike when the panniers are off :thumb l
No2 Slim profile when the panniers are on the bike :thumb
No3 The best mounting system IMHO :thumb
No4 Easy to touch up scratches with Hammerite :P

Looks like johnny is about to batter the plastic

Very pleased with mine. They did leak a little when new but a chat with Al Jesse sorted it. (The catches needed adjusting). The catches however are a weak point in that they are too easy to break into IMHO.(see pic) As I said elsewhere some lowlife broke into them and removed the contents. I'll be adding padlocks. Not tried the racks but I use the boxes to sit on when camping and the racks would stop me doing this this. I've not found anything that I like better. So would buy again.

Simple,

I've had the rest (Civil's tookenfukenfuhrermutens notwithstanding) and now I have the best, I discount Vernatechs on the basis they are no longer available If they ever were  .

I wanted the extra capacity offered by the Jesse's without widending the bike and without making them unwieldedly (word?) tall, I like the lack of scaffold when the bags are removed, I like the lid storage, I like the mounting camlock system. And they are very robust. I also like the fact my stuff doesn't get covered in aluminium dust as they did with the Touratechs, and they are still not as heavy as my H&B Expeditions despite the extra capacity of over 30 litres!!

IMHO you cannot buy better, but others will disagree, but would have to concde if they knew what I paid :D

You get what you pay for.

If you are going to get something, get the best.

Well worth the extra cash.

Only down side are the locks.

 How's the holiday going Dave

They mount very low on the bike and, given your riding style Jon, i'd be worried about grounding out on some corners! Oh, and that hammerite finish is hideous, and there's bugger all room in the exhaust side pannier!

There's no need to be like that..I'm sure I'll get the set that I paid in full for soon...ffs, it's only been 18 months, be reasonable!!!

:dabone :clap

Thanks for the :thumb on the riding, MMM............you're no slowcoach either

Found a set in good nick, at a reasonable price and very tempted - especially if camping

However the ground clearance was my main concern, especially seeing that I've scuffed the underside of the exhaust side BMW system case, somewhere on the Garmisch trip (no I didn't drop the Pannier or the Bike!!)

It's not an issue. My footpegs touch long before the base of the panniers. The system cases are much wider than Jesses, so touch down sooner.

Ditto to all that Judge said including the cost but it's horses for courses.

1150 Dave, how do you fit padlocks to the handles, I'm interested???

So far, I've had Jesse's, Vern's and System cases.

Jesse's

On the R100 (and now on e-bay - blatent plug). Well put-together, easy to touch up (it is like Hammerite), capacious and (best of all) easy to get on and off. Mine were waterproof, sittable-on, and looked smart (I reckon anyway). Mounts were well-made, but could do with powder-coating to make them more resistent to rust.

System

You all know about system cases. They do a job, but the side-loading is, for me, a pain.

Vern's

For my money - the best. Huge, great mounts (stainless throughout), front opening is easiest to get stuff in and out of, and incredible attention to detail. Lock 'em with a padlock and open with one secure catch. Am I selling mine - am I heck! I just wish there was an easy way to detach them, but they are fine in London traffic just as long as you remember the back is bigger than the front of the bike...

"1150 Dave, how do you fit padlocks to the handles, I'm interested???"

Was not going to fit them to the handles.I was just going to fit a hasp and staple and a smallish padlock with velcro attached (and the other half of the velco to the pannier) to stop it rattling. I'd seen this done on other luggage and TBH not given it much more thought.
However you have got me thinking. Have half an idea. Will have a proper look next week. If I come up with anything I'll post a photo.

Didn't mean to offend anyone with my remark by the way, I just don't like them personally. If they're the really so good then fair enough.

I was interested about the comment about the system panniers though, would they ground out before the pegs? (presuming the suspension is in good nick and riding solo), that seems a bit crap if they do.

I used to have Jesse's on my old 1150Adv. Would agree with most of the comments here. Very robust, mounting frames rust so need a better coating than standard, frames dont look too bad without panniers (on an Adventure). Only sold them as the wouldnt fit my next bike . Jim Mcsharry bought em , dunno if he liked them or not.
Basically they do a good job and are narrow for the capacity. PS my locks were a bit fiddly alledgedly improved on later versions.
Biggest downside, Cost new.

I have had the Jesses on the bike for about 60k miles, and my views on them are well known (and well available elsewhere on this board). As to the racks, bought them from Al personally for £20 about 3 months after fitting the panniers, they have sat on a shelf in my garage ever since (you can have them for free if you want) 'cause my pillion thought they would raise the luggage we carried on top of the panniers too high for comfort, and having 100% waterproof panniers, the thought of drilling 8 holes in the top was just too much for either of us to contemplate (despite Al's reasurrances to the contrary).

.......and one of the things I love about the 1150 is with the pillion seat removed and the jesses on I have a huge flat carring platform, the racks would have buggered that completely. You can still have mine if you want them :)

Do not discard the panniers sold by Paul Caveman (EIBC link on the wanted & sales sction).
I have a set and they work perfectly well for me. The esiest system to mount/dismount I've seen so far. And at a fraction of the cost of anything else...
