Maybe a stupid question but if the needle's in the the carb's get worn need replacing do the jets also get worn and need replacing after a while? I'm trying to get to the bottom of rough running on my bike. The carbs have had a good clean and have new needle's. It was quite rough around 2500-3000 so I balanced them and sorted the idle which helped a lot at the lower rev's but now theres more vibrations through the pegs and bars at higher revs, 4000+. So my thoughts went to the main jet's and if its possible they could be worn. :nenau Not sure what to try next.

It's an r100gs. valves are good, haven't checked them for a while but haven't done many miles either.

I always balance the carbs on my 1997 R100S at circa 4000 rpm . I use an old mercury column gauge & adjust the throttle cables so that both mercury column`s are equal . Always gives a super smooth ride at these higher revs . Without such a gauge you can do similar by removing each plug cap & check that the resultant fall in revs is equal on each cylinder . A throttle stop screw makes the job easier for holding the revs at whatever level you use .

Cheers

Harry

i thought worn needles and jets was a well known issue on airheads, particularly the R100 :nenau

Yes, thats what I was wondering, the jets do wear too then? makes sense if they are a bit worn.
