John Clark ABDN 12K Service

12K service plus rear brake pad change along with brake and clutch fluid change 212.00p at Southport superbikes.
Expensive in my mind but seems a bargain to some of the other prices people have paid.

Vote with your spanners & do it yourself. Only let the dealer do the bits you're not confident about.

Valve clearances, oils & filters are not rocket science. TB synch takes a bit of practice - I'll be doing mine for the first time very soon.

Same with buying tyres at top £££ from dealers & then paying them £50.00 per hour to fit them:eek:  Get someone to show you how to do it, buy a few levers, a cheap compressor & off you go. Take them to a dealer for balancing or make a balancer yourself as I did. Still working on how to balance the rear though:confused:

Did. Hence the reason I now travel 200 miles for a minor service, and pass 4 main dealers on the way. Plus the two the other way within 100 miles.

Good Idea,

Where do you go for a service then? I'd ride 500 miles to avoid giving someone the pleasure of ripping me off.

I have read this thread in depth. I have been servicing my bikes for years myself, including several BMWs, and never had a real problem. The only time I have used dealers is to have work doen where it requires the use of special tools. Interestingly that last time I used a BMW dealer, I had to have the head bearings replaced in K100rs. Got the bike back, and the bearinsg were adjusted way too tight, to the extent that the bike wandered all over the road in an alarming fashion. Took it back, they re-checked it, got it back, guess wot? Still the same!!
£170 that cost me. In the end, I adjusted them myself. It makes me bloody angry even as I thnk about it.

Now, the big question is, my GS is due a 12000 mile service, which if I want to keep the warranty in order, should me done by the dealer, (the same one as fecked it up with the K). The warranty expires in November this year.
Do I pay some ridiculous price for the privilege of a job that may or may not be done properly, and then I have to fight tooth andf nail to get it rectified if it does go wrong, or do I forgo the warranty, bearing in mind it's not far off expiry anyway, and at least know I have done the job properly?

Come on chaps, wot do yer think, should I be a rebel or not?
