got my bike (1150gs) serviced last week and on the way home virtually every time to a stop at low speed it would make a juddering whiney noise from the front.

it typically didn't start till i was far enough away from the garage to not turn around and go back plus thought it may have just been bit of something from service around pads and would stop.

has anyone got any suggestions as to what it could be?

cheers

No idea what it is but if it's just been serviced (and I assume this includes the brakes) by a 'professional' mechanic, take it back and let them have a look at it.

brakes werent serviced as such. was the inspection service but pads were visually checked. it was serviced at rgm who from what i was told on the forums are good. ive called them and will take it back next week as on nights this weekend. hopefully weather wont be too bad as garage is an hours run away

Did they have the front wheel off for any reason? This sounds like the front axle bolt could be overtightened :nenau

dont recall front wheel being removed was mainly all fluids changed ect. front brake fluid was changed, could it have not been bled fully and thats what the noise is from

Basics first.ABS/non ABS,servo assisted or earlier type?.
Have a bloody good look and check-tighten everything before heading back to the dealers (or anywhere) with possible dodgy brakes.

its non abs i think non servo. it seems to brake fine apart from the juddering sensation and squeel which is sub 5 mph when it does it. will check all bolts and have a good look over it late but im no mechanic. could it just be the brakes werent bled trough properly and theres some bubbles in line?

It's probably just a bit of oil/brake fluid/WD40/greasy handprint on a brake disc.

It'll wear off shortly.

none as yet. due to working shifts and the distance just havent had chance to get it down to the garage but on the last few days using it for work it hadnt done it at all then yesterday it started again just as i was getting home. it only does it at probably less than 5 mph as your coming to a stop.

Disc bobbins worn, plus wavy washers worn i reckon.

can you explain further for the ignorant. what are they are where are they located on the brakes. also why would they cause what im experiencing.

how easy are they to replace or is it an expensive job

The disc has an oval'ish hole with a bobbin through the middle which the mounting bolts screw into also a sprung washer, they are a floating system. Over time the hole in the disc and the bobbin wear with the movement of the disc causing a sloppy fit take the discs off and have a look, it's a common thing to happen over time mine went at 35k, if the bobbins have worn it's a cheap fix for them and the washers, if the disc holes have worn as well it's not. Have a look at a disc on motorworks site and compare the look of the holes etc to yours it's fairly easy to see if they are worn.It caused a juddering feeling on mine at lower speed as if a disc was warped.

For discs contact Steptoe, good products at the right price.

thanks mate the lower speed bit is exactly what mine is as only happens sub 5 mph. had a look on motorwork looks like bobbins and washers would come to about 25 ish for both side to resolve it. would the disks move it i wobble them or is it a case of taking them off to check

They should move a little anyway if you push in on them towards the wheel but you shouldnt be able to rattle it if you know what i mean, it really is best to remove it to have a look and assess the wear and dont forget threadlock when you reassemble unless you get new bolts which normally already have it on. Good luck:beerjug:
