The wife and I are off for a 6 week camping tour of Europe later this summer. We will be charging our gadgets off the bikes, so I thought it might be a good idea to take a set of jump leads with me in case we drain one battery too much.
Can anyone recommend a set suitable for bikes that I can buy off the shelf. I've googled booster cables and quite honestly my knowledge of things electrical isn't up to helping me select an appropriate amps rating. I want to be safe, but don't really want overkill as the set will take up more space while traveling. Many thanks for any suggestions.

Go into touring essentials - they do a bikestart cable / jumper part which you can wire straight up to your bike. then the clamps can be hidden elsewhere!

Think there are a few people here who have made their own though!

Hope this helps

I was at a mates house just yesterday trying to start a Honda VFR800 that has been sat in the garage for 12 mths with a knackered battery, he pulled a set of halfords motorcycle jump leads out of a bag which to be honest looked like lightweight tat.
I was absolutely gobsmacked when we rigged them up to his mini and rather than melting they actually took a fair bit of cranking before starting the bike. they didn't even get hot.
Wouldn't like to try and start a car with them but they worked fine on a bike

Wunderlich do a jump start kit which comes in two parts - the first part is permanently connected to the battery and the wires terminate into a plastic plug, the second half is the jump leads with two standard crocodile clips and again the other end of the cables terminate into a plastic plug which pushes into the other half.

This is a great arrangement where the battery is difficult to locate as on a GS as the permanent connection can be stowed in a place that is immediately accessible. :thumb

The 1150ADV has a jump start bolt threaded through the starter motor and sticks out the side for easily placing a jump lead on.

Not sure if your 1200 can be modded with this .. :nenau

Makes using jump start cables dead easy to use ....:thumb2

Wunderlich Bikestart

It is called a Bikestart catalogue number 2024568 and costs €29.95.
