Hello chaps,

Only happened to me twice, once at 90 and accelerating hard in 6th, the other was in 3rd at 40ish and it popped out of gear.

Not really worried as it's only happened twice in 2000miles, but I want to know if it is a sign of impending DOOM or do they all do that sir (occasionally)

Also - to my shame :( I put GL4 spec oil in the box by accident, got GL5 super dooper stuff sat in my shed changing it at the weekend, could the crap oil cause it to jump out of gear??

cheers

Steptoe specifically specifies GL5 in some other gearbox problem threads.
Id say change immediately, but i dont know if you need to flush the box as well before filling with GL5.
Also check the gear lever pivot for stickiness.

my 06 gsa does the same, it only jumps out of fourth back into third. It neally had me off the other week. the dealer says there isn't a problem but i know different, if it is not fixed on the service next month then i'm going to bmwuk:mad:

My 02 1150 has jumped out of 6th occasionally from new, usually following a less than firm change and heavy loading - e.g uphill on a motorway. I've never been too concerned about it and made it to 55k miles with no other problems.

oh FFS !

its a tractor gearbox with a seperate dry clutch.

it doesn't care what spec g'box oil it gets ( within reason )

its probly your linkage sticky ...... or you've got a new pair of boots

heyyyy Marti keep the wig on! I'm running margarine in the bevelbox is this OK??

Cheeky!! Guzzi final drive's don't fail, occasionally a gearbox output seal. But that's it. Don't think the same can be said of the BM unit of which so many seem to end up weeing oil

the UJs don't go bang - they go crunch rumble graunch grrrrrr THEN bang - plenty of warning!
