Slipping out of gear

2005 Varadero 1000
Noticed over the past couple of months that whilst overtaking sometimes the bike has not engaged the next gear straightaway but has needed a couple of pulls of the clutch lever and playing around with the gears.
Yesterday whilst out the bike slipped out of gear 3/4 times. Happened at about 50mph whilst in 4/5 gear.
Its in for its 24000 mile service this week - any ideas what it could be?
