Been trawling the MCM classifieds and came across these two rather nice examples.

Both look like really nice bikes at really well educated realistic prices, though the second one is a little under priced IMO but only by a couple of hundred.

Much better and more honest bikes than some are asking nearly double for lately.

That second one is about 2 mles away from where I'm sitting.

I don't think they are fetching anywhere near the prices being asked or simply not selling at all.

I've just sold my RS. Have a guess how much it went for in the end. Very little interest.

IIRC you said somewhere that you'd be happy to take £2200 for it. So I'd say you let it go for £2100 ish. Unless you gave it away at £1900.

This considering you've just finnished a total rebuild and spent over £500 on paint.

Think I'd have kept it in the garage with my fingers crossed for a bit longer :nenau

Now if it had been an original condition RS in clean, good running order (ie not stood up for eight years, then dragged out and given a quick MOT) without the rebuild, I susspect it would have been worth £12-1600 MOT'd and Taxed.

Doesn't say much for all the effort you put in the these bikes does it. Shame they aren't more sort after and likley to make all that effort worth it's value.

The ST is lovely , though I've always thought it a shame that they got the instrument housing so wrong. Looks like someones strapped their lunch box across the yokes..

I wonder how much he'd be asking for the bike if it was a G/S?:augie

P.s, I'm amazed that you had so little interest in the RS Rob, really is lovely machine and a total credit to you.

Yes, the ST presents well, if not a little unusually (for an ST) with traditional BMW black paint and white lining. Standard STs also have flatter bars.

Got to get ST running again soon. It was my first bike, bought in late '88.

£1650 and you gave it away :comfort IMHO Nothing much is selling at the moment. The stupid thing is, right old sheds seem to be selling for not much less than well sorted bikes because some people like restoration projects and ignore the maths. DAMHIK :blast

Interesting to see an ST in black as I was thinking of doing the same with mine. Now that I've seen this one I don't think I will, it looks a bit drab.

I agree with BenjaminM about the instrument pod, it looks like an afterthought - "oh f*ck we've left the instruments off, grab something, anything and bung it on"

BMW wouldn't do this would they? :eyebrow

£2200 in the end. It's off to Sunny France.

Proper job as well inside and out not just a lick of paint

I just haven't got the space to keep it otherwise I'd have kept it.

I think that these bikes are actually in limbo at the moment. Too old to be of interest to most people as everyday transport and too young to be collectible.

Mothball a good one of these properly, store for another ten years and I reckon the prices in real terms will be much higher.

I'm actually tempted to get a '70's bike to use as everyday transport. Simple, durable and probably far better made in terms of material quality and paint finish. My 1150GS has rotted faster than a costermonger's frosty carrot and the R60/2 is just a bit too old to be a daily ride. 6volt lights, and 2,000 mile oil changes with no proper filtration doesn't make for mechanical durability. It would also be criminal to submit the old girl to the winter acid blast of salt and grit.

But a 75/5 -> 7 might be a whole different platter of poissons. Do they have proper oil filters?

I've got an inkling of whats happening.

All of us 50 yr old ( +/- 5 yrs ) are losing the mojo / got an old bike already / selling an old bike.

£2,200! That's not much cash for a lot of bike.....

I was thinking of selling my g/s but this thread has put me off the idea, so I'll hang on to it for another year.

And another thing....

I reckon the good old recession might have something to do with it. Maybe those folks who might have kept/restored/tinkered with a classic or two as second bikes are holding on to their pennies at the moment.

Up until the very recent past an awful lot of people were living off their credit cards I think. Same thing as above I suppose.
