Just Done It, Thanks Vines

arrived at vines to collect the bike and gear as arranged. sat for ages being told i should take finance as "its a lot of money" and then the speach about gap insurance. finally got them to take payment on my debit card and went to clothing to get my gear. at this point i'd been in the for over 2 hours faffing about. then i was told that the gear i had ordered (and been told was in stock) was not actually in stock. i refused to ride 230 miles home in my jeans, they didn't come up with any sensable alternative so i requested my money back. 91/2 hours after leaving home i arrived back at home, without a bike, dissapointed and with 460 miles on my car. not even an offer of fuel money for my trouble. i know alot of people on here are but vines certainly are tossers !!!!!!

Doesn't surprise me at all. Bought my bike from Vines because SPC was closed down back in the early part of this year. Never been back since. Even though I pay more for servicing at Battersea, I feel much better supporting people that appreciate my business.

Rossi, that's a pretty poor showing by the salesman at Vines. Usually they are a great lot to deal with. I've bought two bikes from them and have been very happy. Seems like someone dropped the ball big time: why not simply give you a different (perhaps more expensive) suit in your size or offer to deliver the bike and suit later with a discount to make up for the snafu?

To lose a bike sale in the current economic environment because no correctly sized suit ordered with it is available appears almost negligent. I'd suggest that you get in touch with Duncan Bell, the m/c sales manager, to sort out this mess. Some compensation for your inconvenience might be in order?

Good luck,
Achim

I suggest you write to the owner (as I think Vines is an independent rather than part of a large group) directly. i.e. Duncan Bell's boss.

Or an even better way to express your anger .. Get Williams Manchester to send the owner of Vines a nice christmas card! That will be a nice touch. :thumb2

hi, just ordered a brand new gs adventure from williams in manchester, dynamic & premium packs. collect it on 2nd january (2009 reg). your saying don't buy the twat suit but what others are there ??? always been a sports bikes and leathers bloke you see

Jan 2009 will still be a '58 :tears

What sort of suit depends on what sort of riding you're going to do on the bike. Sunday afternoons only will need a Tour X with a dark visor and moto-cross boots too :)

no, would deliver at a cost. totally unacceptable in my eyes.

Tossers and they should get what they deserve in the Credit Crunch ( I have even bought a bike from them.............well from Duncan there)

Unfeckingbelievable:eek

Vines of Guildford, bunch of arses!!!

I've already posted this somewhere else on the forum but cant remember where. Bought Touring screen, to keep the wind off my bonce. I'm 5ft9 tall, and frankly its the WORST £280 i ever spent. All it has succeeded in doing is directing high pressure air at the mid/top of my lid, which is WORSE than the standard screen. I would have just refitted the standard screen, but Vines chucked all the screws brackets and bits in the bin shortly after I left. (it was cold and after 4 hours of fecking around with the screen myself with almost no bloody help from them, i was just so happy to get the hell away from there I did in all fairness forget about the other brackets and screws for the standard screen to be honest!!)Atandard screen came home with me tucked in my bike kacket, and BOY was it uncomfortable!!!

I was told if i came over and didnt mind a bit of a wait then they would fit my screen for me, so that what I did.
When I got there they told me they had no-one to fit it and basically tough shit, come back some other day. They were very canny though and didnt tell me this until after I had paid for it on my card.
when I phoned them to explain all this I was left with the overriding impression they dont give a shit, to the extent i was told that if i wanted the brackets and bits I'd just have to bloody well pay for them myself.
As they threw them does it not seem reasonable for them to replace what they had binned, without charging me?

I'm writing this in the hope that you all may express your opinions as to whether I'm being unfair expecting Vines to replace what they threw away, or whetehr I should just forget it as it was my fault for leaving the stuff there in the first place. looking forward to hearing what you all or any have to say!!

By the way, please excuse the appaling spelling. Just got one of those split style keyboards and I hate it with a vengeance.........

Write 'em the owner of Vines a letter and see what they say/offer you; if you're 'keen' to get a bike asap take your money elsewhere, and still write the letter.

Having recently punted around various UK BMW dealers for a deal, they're pretty variable [1]; from biting my arm off, to very laid back then finally not bothered at all.

BMW bike dealers at the moment are pretty cocksure and seem to be working under the belief that 2009 and the credit crunch ain't gonna hit 'em in the same way as the car dealers are being hit as they believe the owners passion for their bikes means nothing changes. I can see the indies picking up more trade tbh and the sales stalling, esp with the Euro/Pound kicking in next year too.

[1] though their mechanics seem to have forgotten how to tighten up bolts these days. Two different bikes, two different dealers, about two months apart. One bolt drops out on one bike; on another bike two bolts holding a brake caliper are merely fingertight, no loctite either, I discovered this by accident after nearly 400 miles, which perhaps shows how 'good' fingertight really is :-/

I have been going to Vines for years now and have never had a problem with them, they have great customer service, they are a bit laid back but hey they are in Surrey, great coffee and always a smile from all there, sorry to hear about your bits that were thrown away but if you dont take everything that you want and just leave it lying around then sh*t just gets tossed away, this happens anywhere these days,I was there on Saturday in the rain and they have 30 off road skills bikes there and another 17 on the way from Wales, one of the salemen showed me the bikes and the F800gs's look ok for the money, they had challenges, but all pre sold, they had about 10 countries, again nearly all sold, some adventures 4 I think, also all sold and the guy said that all the 1200gs's were arriving on Monday and they are all gone as well, they must be doing something right at Vines to sell all those bikes in December with the credit crunch, take care and hope you get along with the screen,it might need a bit of getting use to,maybe some adjustment if there is any,
