Just Done It, Thanks Vines

I've already posted this somewhere else on the forum but cant remember where. Bought Touring screen, to keep the wind off my bonce. I'm 5ft9 tall, and frankly its the WORST £280 i ever spent. All it has succeeded in doing is directing high pressure air at the mid/top of my lid, which is WORSE than the standard screen. I would have just refitted the standard screen, but Vines chucked all the screws brackets and bits in the bin shortly after I left. (it was cold and after 4 hours of fecking around with the screen myself with almost no bloody help from them, i was just so happy to get the hell away from there I did in all fairness forget about the other brackets and screws for the standard screen to be honest!!)Atandard screen came home with me tucked in my bike kacket, and BOY was it uncomfortable!!!

I was told if i came over and didnt mind a bit of a wait then they would fit my screen for me, so that what I did.
When I got there they told me they had no-one to fit it and basically tough shit, come back some other day. They were very canny though and didnt tell me this until after I had paid for it on my card.
when I phoned them to explain all this I was left with the overriding impression they dont give a shit, to the extent i was told that if i wanted the brackets and bits I'd just have to bloody well pay for them myself.
As they threw them does it not seem reasonable for them to replace what they had binned, without charging me?

I'm writing this in the hope that you all may express your opinions as to whether I'm being unfair expecting Vines to replace what they threw away, or whetehr I should just forget it as it was my fault for leaving the stuff there in the first place. looking forward to hearing what you all or any have to say!!
Can i just comment on this screen matter. When you rang and said you would like a screen fitting we said yes we would do that for you as it takes about 30-40 mins to fit but we could not do it on that day but we could do it tomorrow. You then turned up that day to get your screen and have it fitted after we had already explained we could not do it until tomorrow then when you found out that we would charge you labour for fitting you decided to fit it yourself on our forecourt. Once you had fitted it you then rode off having left the 2 boxes open on the forecourt with screws lying around waiting for the next poor person to come along and get a puncture our site cleaner cleaned up your mess and put it all in the bin. After than you rode home that evening and called me the next day saying you want a refund and your old parts back i went into the compactor myself looking for them for you, so yes a Vines we do give a s**t about you and customers but you chose to fit it yourself because 1 you could not wait and 2 you were not paying for the labour, why should we than pay for the parts which you left in rubbish on our forecourt. I am sorry that you dont like the screen we have not had anybody else say that they are not very good so maybe its down to personal preference. When you knew we could not fit it that day you were sat in front of me and you had not fitted the screen or even at that point paid so you could have rode away at that point.

my original thread has been a little bit hyjacked here, darren, i see you have defended your issue over the screen, but not mentioned anything about my issue with vines. i travelled a 430 mile round trip as i was told you had the bike and the suit in my size. at the end of this month i have to declare my personal use of my company car, for which i pay 40p per mile, so because of your mistake, lack of communication or whatever else you want to call it, i am due to lose around £170. i have contacted vines about this but as of now i have not had a response. do i just accept that i lose money over your mistake ?????

It is always good to hear the other side of the story, sounds like some confusion over when there would be someone available (and not wanting to pay for labour ) to fit the screen led a dummy spit. I don't think Vines were at all out of order throwing the parts away that were left behind.

Always 2 sides to every story, thanks for putting both sides:thumb2

Seems fair and nice to hear a dealer answering comments on a forum :thumb2

Would have been cheaper to hire a van and go and collect it - maybe you ought to relook at your company car expenses

40p per mile isn't that bad for a fueled, insured and taxed mercedes E320CDi

With refrence to the screen issue, again it's great to hear both sides of the story, however why come onto a forum having a rant, calling people "arses" when there is clearly more to the story, again great to hear a from a dealer, any dealer that comments, cares!!!

vines are complete W*"KERS....!

I had similar experience, i didnt as far as ordering the bike from vines. I went there with the cash in my pocket, looking for a 2008 gsa, they ignored me when i went in the dealership. They eventually came and asked if they could help, and when i explained what i wanted the useless sales guy goes, ( oh sorry the guy you need to speak to isnt here), i got the impression that they didnt know a motorbike from a wheely bin. idiots. Then for the next two weeks they kept pestering, so that was it tad da. Surely you need to ask the question bmw dealer that has car dealership right next door, all they are interested in is selling cars.

So a visit to the really helpful guys at BARNSTORMERS and am no a proud owner of a `08 gsa. OH and yes i have the full twat kit head to toe, which i love, works really well. So go visit the guys there, nice coffee and bickeys. A must for any dealership. Cant sing thier praises enough. :thumb2:thumb2

God everybody seems to have got up on the wrong side of the bed today, again there is always two ides to every story as Darren from Vines has already pointed out, relax, chill out, enjoy the Bm's

not so much wrong side of bed, just telling it as it is. vines knew what i needed, knew i was travelling a long way to collect the bike yet failed to tell me they didn't have the suit. i spoke to vines today who are not willing to pay my out of pocket expenses or fuel or anything. they claim that i was told that the suit wasn't in stock, so i looked back through my emails and found the invoice sent to me on the wednesday prior to the saturday i was due to collect the bike saying "I have not included the rallye suit as we need to pay this to parts on the day, however they have the suit and have reserved it for you". their response today was the email didn't say what size suit !!!
i have to say in all this that i don't think the salesman was at fault, he even offered me his own personal suit to enable me to ride the bike home.

It was good of Vines to come on to the thread, but a bit of an own goal by not addressing the main point.

It's tempting to negotiate 'good deals' over the phone but sometimes value means more than £££££'s, in this case a good local dealer. I use Rainbow in Rotherham - not sure if you'd class this as local.

In terms of suits, if you want to stick with BMW try the Tourance. Its cheaper and less high profile than the Rallye, but I was out all day Saturday in the freezing poring rain and it performed perfectly. Also you can get it in red to match your bike (I presume you will give up on the unlucky magnesium :hide ).

Also you should change the tread title to add 'NOT!!!!!!!!!!!' at the end.

funny!

i have to say in all this that i don't think the salesman was at fault, he even offered me his own personal suit to enable me to ride the bike home.[/QUOTE]

missed that bit out in the first post, so you could have got the bike home, and they could have posted the `TWAT` suit on. Is there more you havnt told us?

nick, don't you think i'd have done that if his suit had fitted ????? i said it was good of him to offer, not that it fitted

its good of darren@vines to come on here and comment about mark2jags query while completely ignoring the original threads complaint!

say's it all really..........

This is really just a reply to say im impressed that anyone really does care enough to comment on what i've written on the forum, so Darren@Vines nice to see you do read the forums. However, I DID phone in advance and i WAS told that it would be possible to be fitted next day if I didn't mind a small wait. I couldnt come back next day as I work 12 hour shifts. So as you can imagine the change of mind/breakdown in communication really didnt help my mood when i got back and wrote what you read. My opinion on the TOURING screen really is valid though, it seems to do no more than the standard screen does, or did till the bits went in the bin. Would it be too much to have the bits that were thrown away replaced, so then I can refit the standard screen. After all, we are talking about 2 metal/plastic brackets, and 2 brass inserts, and I think thats all.
Reference the leaving the bits all over your forecourt, I seem to remember I was so concerned about losing something of importance that I put everything back in the box, so dont think i would be guilty of causing anyone to get a puncture, and if they did I would really like to know how they got a puncture riding their bikes within 6 to 8 inches of your front door, unless of course they were riding into or out of the showroom at the time

A quick follow up to the last posting I made.I did attempt to send the same mail that I posted here to Darren@Vines as a PM, however it would seem that Darren@Vines does not have(or maybe want, I dunno I'm only guessing here!!!!) the ability to receive emails from members of this forum, and secondly the point was somewhat missed, in so far as I asked for a solution, but none was provided, so I shall reiterate it again here: Will Vines provide me with the brackets and brass inserts I need to refit my small(standard) screen.

I dont really want to be arguing with people on a forum, and wont, so is a solution forthcoming or not??? I guess only time will tell, so watch this space...............

....... After all, we are talking about 2 metal/plastic brackets, and 2 brass inserts, and I think thats all...

It is clearly your fault that you do not have the bits - you took the screen, why not the brackets. As you discarded them and you could not even be bothered to go into the shop and ask them to 1. keep them for you or 2. dispose of them in a proper manner then I am not surprised that you get the response you have had.

Since you went with the intention of changing the screen at Vines why did you not take the facilities to transport the screen back to Camberely on you bike - that is what I - or were you expecting to leave the screen behind if Vines had changed it.

I think all this post is about is the fact that you have seen little or no improvement with the new screen and you cannot now sell it as you do not have the brackets for your original screen.

If it is only a few brackets and screws - then buy them - 'cos in my view it is actually your fault even though Vines may have been a little lax on communication

Totally agree

Get your hand in your pocket mark2jag and buy what you need to re-fit the original GS800 screen

You left them as discarded and so it's your fault that you haven't got them now

Why should Vines pay £20-30 to rectify your mistake

Also it's not their fault that the touring screen is no better in your opinion....................to some people it may be brilliant

Screens are very subjective

Dealers are busy too, is it their fault that they can't fit in with your shift pattern.................not really

Talk about spoon feeding, sort your self out - you left the bits, not them
