Just joined and now need therapy....

MikeRR, I went from a K1200RS to an 1150GS - we were going everywhere at 240kph and the thing ate tyres. I love my 1150 - best all rounder I've ever owned but am now seriously thinking about a 1200 GSA, even if it means putting my retirement off for a couple of years. :rob

Is it easy to over lean in corners and scrape engine parts? or is there alot of feel from the front?

I took my 1150GS to Knockhill race circuit on standard Tourance tyres for a Niall McKenzie track day school. After a while the instructor told me to get off the side of the bike in corners as I was at risk of running off the edge of the tread. Modified my boots and had to revise my foot position on the pegs but only once got the slightest indication of anything else scraping, I think it was the joke standard plastic had protector.

But I'm just old and slow. There again not as slow as many others there on sports bikes and sport tourers!

You will definitely have fun!

"........The lack of top speed (although I would miss it)....." Yes, you are quite right, the 1200GS will only do 207 kph (128.5 mph) and your speedo will read 210 (130 mph.) It will take you 20 secs to reach that speed. I used to live in Crowborough ( 'Pleasant View') about 35 years ago - they must have built some fantastic roads around there since I left!
Now you were joking, weren't you?

LOL Brian :D Some awesome roads around her, you just have to know where they are.....not as good as where you are right now I am sure.....Cant wait for the 1200GS to arrive, dont care about the lack of top speed, be nice to have a bike with some character!

Welcome

Hi Mike,

I am also from Crowborough and married a blond girl 30 years ago! We are still happily married and I now have permission to purchase 2 1150GS's, 1 for me and 1 for my son. We intend to do some touring round Europe then into Morroco to do some off-road stuff.

PM me if you wish and we can perhaps ride out together.

Rob

Welcome Mike
Crowborough is a very strange place. Neither Country but definitely not a village nor a town. :eek Seems to be the sort of place in which a 1960s urban horror film was set. No wonder you need therapy. :D
Whilst I am venting my prejudices try the 1150 before plumping for the smoothness and extra power of the 1200. The Sussex and Kent roads are ideally suited to a GS. :beerjug:

Sounds good Rob. Where abouts in Crowborough are you? We are down Millbrook road.

Crowborough

Should we start a new thread on this town ? I lived there in about 1960 - I seem to remember 17, Pleasant View Road, a detached 4 bedroom house, very modern at that time with hot air oil fired heating and double glazing. - I watched it being built and was the first occupant. I think it cost £5,700.(No, I have not left off any noughts!) 2 of my four children started at the Primary school in ST.John's Road - does anyone know what became of Marion Beedell, a teacher there and also an expert in bees?
Sorry to all those who find this quite irrelevant!
So, to come back to earth - I would agree that frolm A to B, quickly in all weathers the 1200GS must be the best bike for the job. The Adventure is a temptation - but will look a bit over the top for a ride to the pub, or in fact to virtually any UK destination. So BUY IT!
