Me and swmbo are hoping to get out for a few early morning rides before it hots up to much and this area just north of reus looks to have some good riding ,
Anybody have any experience of this area ?:thumb2

I live in Tarragona although I keep my bikes in the Pyrenees where I also have a holiday cottage.

But the riding inland from Reus is brilliant. The useful limit for short rides is to stay in the mountains south of the N240 / AP2 'corridor' that appears on your map and probably as far west as the Ebro river - the .

You really do have to have an early start as the roads there are rather narrow and with poor visibility - and very very bendy!!! - and at least on the coastward side, i.e literally just inland of Reus, you get a lot of cyclists and the day wears on and locals taking a drive.

There are numerous 'circuits' that the locals use so just follow your nose, but a few 'must do' rides: the TP-7402 from Porera to the C-242 just south of Cornudella de Montsant and the TV-7004 to and from Vilanova de Prades from the C-242 just north of Undemolins, where there is good visibility and a reasonable margin for error.

If you head off around these 'back' roads and want to get back to Salou quickly in the midday heat the N-420 from Mora d'ebre and the C-44, which heads back to the coast at l'Hospitalet are both good roads, especially the latter.

Enjoy!

PS it's worth taking the bus along the coast to explore Tarragona, which is a bit like York on a cliff above the Med. Luckily for your perhaps I won't be here so you won't have to fill me with beer for all of these tips! :)

Cheers Simon this was just the sort info I was after ,you really can't beat tips from someone with local knowledge of the area .
I've noted all you're suggested routes and my michelin map has been highlited to buggery .
Early mornings definitely especially so I can get back poolside :Motomartin ,cheers for the tip about terragona we might spend an evening up that way .
I definitely owe you a beer :beerjug:

Well you could ride up to the Pyrenees in a few hours to stand a round :)

But an evening in Tarragona would be a bit more sensible, the busses run along the coast road on Cap de Salou every ten minutes or so but stop at the main coach station, which is on the edge of the city. From there walk seawards up the Rambla Nova right to the very end, which has a viewpoint called the 'Balcón del Mediterrani'. From there turn left and you'll see the old walled city rising up. Head for the Cathedral and aim for the Plaça del Forum, where there are lots of nice bars that the locals use - there are very few tourists in the the evening - all are good but my favourite is Espai Vi: Wine-Beer Place & Tapas (formerly 'Kunan' but the same owners so that name crops up too) but they're all good.

A new place on your way back home is Entre Molles - it's so new that there aren't many reviews yet, none in english as far as I know! but the owner worked in Britain for the last four years and has brought back a lots of new international food ideas! Their Facebook page gives you a better idea note that I live about twenty metres from the bar! :)
